Grade 7 Science Lesson on Metals

The document is a lesson plan for a 7th grade science class. The lesson objective is for students to identify the physical properties of metals, non-metals, and semi-metals and locate them in the periodic table. The lesson content covers metals and non-metals. Students will form groups and use pictures to group materials as metals or non-metals based on their properties. The lesson concludes with an assessment where students identify given elements as metals, non-metals, or metalloids.

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
A. Identify the physical properties of metal, non-metal & semi-metal.
I. OBJECTIVE/S B. Locate metals, non-metals & metalloids in the periodic table of
elements

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of properties of metals and

non-metals.
B. Performance The learners demonstrate an understanding of properly interpret product
Standards labels of acidic and basic mixture, and practice safe ways of handling
acids and bases using protective clothing and safety gear.
C. Learning Describe some properties of metals and non-metals such as luster,
Competencies/ malleability, ductility, and conductivity.

Why are frying pans made of metal and their handle is made of a special
kind of plastic? Could a cup be made of metal? Could a frying pan be
made of paper or plastic?
B. Engage For your activity. The students will form two groups. One member will be
the leader, secretary and reporter. The groups will be given a picture.
They have to group the materials in the picture as metal or non-metal
basing on its properties.
C. Explore (The teacher will facilitate the group presentation of the students)

Elements are categorized into three groups in the periodic table. What are
those?
Where can we locate the elements which are metals in the periodic table?
C. Explain Perhaps, you have been identifying a metal based on its appearance. Most
of the time, metals are shiny. They exhibit a luster which is the reason
that they are used as decorations. How about ductility?
