Objective:

To practice travel-related vocabulary and phrases, as well as speaking and


writing skills through planning a vacation.

Part 1: Vocabulary

Match the words to their definitions.

Read the following passage about a planned vacation. Then, answer the
questions below.

John and Lisa's Vacation Plan

John and Lisa are planning a vacation to Italy. They have booked their flight and
made a reservation at a hotel in Rome. They will spend three days in Rome
visiting famous landmarks like the Colosseum and the Vatican. After Rome, they
will travel to Florence by train. In Florence, they plan to go sightseeing and visit
museums. Their itinerary also includes a day trip to Pisa to see the Leaning
Tower. Finally, they will spend the last two days in Venice, exploring the canals
and enjoying Italian cuisine.

Questions:

1. Where are John and Lisa going for their vacation?


2. How many days will they spend in Rome?
3. What mode of transportation will they use to travel from Rome to
Florence?
4. What famous landmark will they visit in Pisa?
5. What activities do they plan to do in Venice?

Part 3: Role-Play

In pairs, take turns being a travel agent and a customer. Use the following
dialogue as a guide:

Customer: Hi, I’d like to plan a vacation to Spain.


Travel Agent: Sure! When would you like to travel?
Customer: I’m planning to go in July.
Travel Agent: Great! What cities would you like to visit?
Customer: I want to visit Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville.
Travel Agent: Excellent choices. How many days will you stay in each city?
Customer: Three days in each city.
Travel Agent: Do you need help with accommodations and transportation?
Customer: Yes, please. I’d like to stay in hotels and use trains for travel.

Part 4: Writing

Write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) about your dream vacation. Include
where you would go, what you would do, and why you chose this destination.
