COMPETENCY-BASED CURRICULUM

A. Course Design

Course Title: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I

Nominal Duration: 268 hours

Course Description: This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and
attitudes in Shielded Metal Arc Welding in accordance with
industry standards. It covers core competencies such as
Setting-up Welding Equipment, Preparing Weld Materials,
Fitting up Weld Materials, Welding Carbon Steel Plates Using
SMAW and Repairing Welds.
Trainee Entry
Requirements: Trainees or students wishing to gain entry into this course
should possess the following requirements:

 Can communicate both orally and in writing;


 Physically and mentally fit;
 With good moral character; and
 Can perform basic mathematical computation.
