What is brick?

BRICK is a moulded rectangular block of


clay baked by the sun or in a kiln until
hard and used as a building and paving
material.

o Clay (Alumina) 20% to 30% by weight


o Silt 20% to 35% by weight
o Sand 35% to 50% by weight

Types of Bricks

Ordinary Bricks
These are ordinary bricks
with rectangular faces
and of standard size.

Hollow or Cavity Bricks:


There are cavities in them
so they
are lighter than ordinary
bricks.
Hollow bricks(containing a
pattern of large holes
removing more than 25% of
the brick's volume).

Splay,Cant or Plinth bricks:

These have a bevel taken off on


one side.

Coping bricks:
These are of different shapes and
sizes to suit various conditions of
use.

Perforated bricks:
These bricks have cylindrical

pattern of small holes through the
brick removing no more than 25% of

Bull-nosed:
These are
used to
round off sharp
corners.

abrasion better.
