NARRATIVE REPORT

“CLEAN-UP DRIVE”

Date: April 12, 2025 Venue: Brgy. San Juan, Surigao City | Brgy. Hall

On April 12, 2025, the National Service Training Program (NSTP)—


Literacy Training Service (LTS) at Surigao del Norte State University-Main Campus
conducted its first major community outreach activity: a clean-up drive in Barangay
San Juan, Surigao City. This activity was organized by Groups 8 and 10 as part of
their commitment to serving the community and promoting environmental awareness.

The activity officially began at 7:00 AM, with students gathering at the
barangay hall for orientation. With the help of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of
Barangay San Juan, students were provided with gloves, sacks, and snacks to support
their efforts throughout the day. The assistance of the SK played a vital role in the
NSTP – LTS | Community smooth execution of the activity and added to the student's enthusiasm.

together with the As the cleanup commenced, the students were divided into two groups to
SK Officials cover more ground effectively. One group focused on cleaning the coastal area, where
plastic waste and marine debris were collected, while the other worked around the
barangay hall and surrounding streets, picking up litter and helping improve the
cleanliness of public spaces. Throughout the morning, the students worked with
dedication and teamwork, demonstrating a strong community spirit and responsibility.
Residents also expressed appreciation for the effort. The collected waste was properly
segregated and disposed of in coordination with the barangay officials.

After the clean-up, the students gathered at the barangay hall for a brief
symposium. The discussion centered on the importance of maintaining a clean
environment, the harmful effects of pollution—especially in coastal communities—
and the responsibility of the youth in promoting sustainable practices. The symposium
served as a moment of reflection and learning, reinforcing the impact of their efforts

for the residents of Barangay San Juan. With the support of the SK and the
cooperation of the community, the NSTP students took a meaningful step toward
becoming responsible and engaged citizens. More importantly, it left a lasting
impression on the students, reminding them that even small actions can lead to
significant change when done with purpose and unity.
