ok here is how I modified the code in lib\http_server.pl:
if ($cmd) {
my $file = "$config_parms{data_dir}/http_fork.html";
&file_write($file, $html);
print_log "0th point: $Pgm_Path " if $main::Debug{thishere};
$cmd .= " $Pgm_Path/print_socket_fork.pl $file";
# Processes can only inherit Win32
filehandles :(
# We only have 3 available handles
(STDOUT,STDIN,STDERR)
# If we use these with parallel processes,
they mess up,
# so make sure we only call this once at a
time
open OLD_HANDLE, ">&STDOUT" or print "\nsocket_fork error: can
not backup STDOUT: $!\n";
if (my $fileno = $socket->fileno()) {
print "http: redirecting socket fn=$fileno s=$socket\n" if
$main::Debug{http};
unless (open STDOUT, ">&$fileno") {
print "http error: Can not redirect STDOUT: $!\n";
print "Older windows (like $Info{OS_name}) can not do
this.\n" if Win32::IsWin95;
}
print_log "1st point: $Pgm_Path " if $main::Debug{thishere};
my $pid = Win32::Process::Create($process, $perl, $cmd, 1, 0,
'.') or
and here are the screen results from doing a "Common Code Activation"
button in Iexplorer. Using the "thishere" as the debug flag.
05/31/03 17:53:39 1st point: ../mh/bin
05/31/03 17:53:39 0th point: ../mh/bin
05/31/03 17:53:37 1st point: ../mh/bin
05/31/03 17:53:37 0th point: ../mh/bin
And this is the cmd windows output:
Can't open perl script "../mh/bin/print_socket_fork.pl": No such file or
directory
Again, using windows 2000, perl 5.008 build 806, mh 2.80.

Here's a good X10 mystery puzzler. I'm hoping someone can help me. I've been using misterhouse for six months now. Love it. Using Linux. I have one mysterious X10 outlet (X10 super socket module) which started acting strange. It has a mind of it's own. The socket turns on, only on, never off, on its own terms. I'm using the CM11 module, never had a problem before. This is what I've done to debug the problem. 1) Replaced the super socket outlet with a new one. The problem actually appears to get worse. 2) Thought maybe it was tied to when the washing machine turning on and off. That's not it, when the laundry is done, still happens. 3) Changed COM ports. 4) returned to an earlier version of my Linux kernel I've been using for the past few months. No luck there. 5) Changed X10 device and House Codes. No luck there. 6) Changed the name of the X10_Item in my mht file, no luck there. Do I have an electronic ghost? Thought maybe the cat was playing games on me, sent him outside. No luck there. Any ideas on how I can further isolate what's going on? Jim Duda jim...@rc... |

I've been working updating the code for the W800 and MR26A modules and I am using a Lynx10PLC on the power line side. I found that the MR26/W800 code generates sequences like XAL and XAM for bright and dim. However, the Lynx10PLC.pm module doesn't seem to recognize those sequences. Attached is a patch to add support for those sequences. Although this patch does work, the logs show a message like "X10: Unmatched incoming data=XAM" when a bright or dim signal comes in. If someone else knows what needs to be done to fix that last little problem, that would be great (I looked around, but it wasn't clear to me). Bill |

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a W800 wireless receiver and
integrated into my MH system. One thing I noticed was that one of my
transmitters (RW724 - wireless wall switch) seemed to generate some
sequences that the W800 module didn't understand. After playing
around with it a bit, I found that transmitter did send a slightly
different bit pattern than the other transmitters for some unit codes.
After reading as much documentation as I could find on the wireless
protocol and adding some debugging statements to the W800 module,
I started breaking down the bits in the routine so that it was a
little easier to modify and handle new things. The W800 provides
a checksum on the data. So I made it check that as well.
After playing with it for a couple of days, I ended up pretty much
re-writing the core of the module. It's quite a bit more verbose
than it was before. I noticed that the W800 code looks like
it was adapted from the MR26 code. So, I ended making a central
routine that both the MR26 and W800 modules call to process RF data.
The central routine will handle the X10 TV style remotes (which was
in the MR26 code but not in the W800 code) and it will also decode
data from security modules (the MR26 doesn't send security data in,
so only the W800 is capable of this).
There are still some more things that I want to do. But, I wanted
to put what I've done so far out and see what people think and get
some feedback.
Currently, I don't have any X10 security devices. However, a friend
of mine does and he loaned me a few items. So, I've been working
on integrating some X10 security features into MH.
Right now, I'm just parsing the security codes and logging them if
w800 debugging is turned on. I'm not actually setting any states.
It would probably be relatively simple to do something like what is
being done with setting the TV states and just create a new X10_W800
item manually and send states like "8171:Open" (where 8171 is the
hexadecimal device ID of the particular sensor). It would probably
be better to do something that could be added to the items.mht file.
Maybe something like this:
X10RF, 8171, living_room_door_sensor, Security|Living_Room
Actually, each type of event could have a class (Armed/Disarmed
would have a class of System, Open/Code would have a class of Sensor)
and then the second field of the items.mht field could be either a
device ID or a class. For example:
X10RF, System, security_system , Security
X10RF, 8171, living_room_door_sensor, Security|Living_Room
Then, any event of class "System" (i.e. arming or disarming from
any remote) could change the state of security_system. But, only
device 8171 would change the state of living_room_door_sensor.
Does that make sense?
What do people think (about either the RF changes in general or the
security ideas)? I looked around a bit and didn't see anything
currently in MH dealing with X10 security. Is anyone else working on
something like this?
In any case, I've attached the modules that I've been working on.
If anyone wants to take a look at them, or even try them, and give
me some feedback, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to try to get back
to this in a couple of weeks and try to finish things up.

Ok, is anyone running XP having a problem reading 1-wire devices? I;m running Ibutton_bruce.pl with minor changes and the buttons defined in the program. You can see from the print log it finds the devices but wont give me any temp readings, have I missed something? The Ibutton viewer works and shows the temps. I remember reading about someone else having problems with XP but couldn't find a reply in the archives. Thanks for your reply, Bruce.
I'm still not getting anywhere. Would you, or anyone else out there, have
the time and be willing to take a look at my pertinent file(s) to show me
what I'm doing wrong?

I have a similar setup with the Progear (looks like about $700 on ebay). Not that fast though. About 30 seconds to to a standard XP boot from hybernation mode. Then you can run XP locally or run XP 'Remote Desktop Connection' to get to a fast box and use the webpad only for input/output. 3 second bootup sounds great. Bruce |

Sure. To be more specific, hows about these methods:
$light1 -> set_fp_location( $x, $y, $w, $y );
$light1 -> set_fp_icon( on => 'light_on.jpg', off => 'light_off.jpg');
$light1 -> set_fp_nodes(@nodes);
$light1 -> set_type('lamp');
We already have a set_info method (for a text description) and a set_icon
method (for picking one web icon to use on the standard web menus). For the
type of the object, type might be better so we don't confuse it with the
object class (e.g. X10_Item). set_fp_icon could be optional, as we could
use default icons based on type.
Internally, I think I'd consider storing the location data as 1 string in a
$self->{fp_location} hash entry, since 1 has entry takes quite a bit less
memory than 4, and splitting into coordinates is fast and we would never
need just one of the 4 numbers.
I'd be happy to add the above methods or to get an updated Generic_Item from
you.

With sleep_time=10 and sleep_count=5 (these are the defaults), I get about 15 loops/sec at about 10% cpu used on a dual 600 mhz P3 box. With sleep_time=1 I get 40 loops/sec at 30% used. My data/mh_temp.user_code file is 700k bytes with 16k records. If you have another program running with a large in-core image that uses a fair amount of cpu, you would see the loops/sec go down and/or the %cpu used go up, since mh will have to page in/out more often. If the modem driver can simulate a serial port (COM3 in your case) I would have thought a standard serial port enabled program like mh would work. Maybe not. Can Hyper Terminal (or anything else) connect to that modem via COM3? Bruce |

Try adding debug to the proxy_speak_play sub in speak_proxy.pl. Add prints
before and in this loop:
for my $room (@rooms) {
next unless my $address = $proxy_by_room{$room};
Maybe you don't have the %proxy_by_room has setup correctly? If the above
looks right, try -debug proxy to see if you are getting the debug print in
the proxy_send sub (in bin/mh).

It sounds like we lost the path somewhere. Try adding a debug print on
$Pgm_Path just before this record in lib/http_server.pl:
$cmd .= " $Pgm_Path/print_socket_fork.pl $file";
And also before and after this line:
my $pid = Win32::Process::Create($process, $perl, $cmd, 1, 0,
'.') or
so we can verify that is the record that gives the above error.

Maybe, instead, we should add a "User Data" hash and store anything for
any reason along with an object?
Like..
$$Bedroom_Light{user_data}{floorplan}{x}=22;
Or is this too unstructured for general use?

I'm having difficulties getting mh to talk to a proxy mh. I'm running speak_proxy on the main mh, and am running mh_proxy on the proxy machine. Both mh and mh_proxy know when the other isn't running, because one or the other will speak and print in the log that a proxy is dead, or the proxy cannot talk to misterhouse. But for the life of me, I cannot get anything through from mh to the proxy box. I have the following in my speak_proxy file on my main box: speak_office_port = proxy 192.168.0.8:8085 (I do have the same ports configured on the proxy box) So if I type in the command speak room=office test on the main box the log file shows that it sent it, but the proxy box never speaks it... nor does the proxy box's log show anything coming in. I've played with this darn thing for days and can't get it figured out. I've even reviewed the message archives and still can't get it. Any help would be *greatly* appreciated! Thanks for your time, Brian |

Hi All,
I would like to add some properties to the Generic Item:
Generic Item:
- $fp_x - Floor plan X
- $fp_y - Floor plan Y
- $fp_w - Floor plan width
- $fp_h - Floor plan height
- %fp_img - Icon list of images Hash {state}{image.jpg}
- $class - Type of object (switch, lamp, appliance, motion) (do we have a
standard? Sometimes the object wont necessary indicate the type of
object for non-X10 items DIO, etc.)
- @nodes - Array of arbitrary relationship nodes
I am not in love with the naming syntax if anyone thinks it should be
different ;)
Any comments / concerns / etc?

back to basics here - i can't seem to figure out how to choose the female voice for TTS under MS's engine. tried
speak_voice=female
speak_voice=mary
speak_voice=Crystal16
speak_voice=Microsoft Mary
none of these seem to work (don't get any speech at all).
is there an easy way to ennumerate the voice names in MS's engine so i know what i can pick from?
i installed the whole SAPI4SDK. is it possible that the female voice is not there by default?

What kind of perfomance are you guys getting as far as loops per second goes? I'm setting up MH on a new computer and ran it initially with the default ini and got something like 20 loops/sec on my P3600 with 192MB RAM.
When i load my own code, that drops to 4. I'm wondering if i've written some really inefficient code... what kind of performace are you getting?

Hi, Does MH support TAPI in modems? I wish to use a USB modem that I have to do the Distinctive ring test and the caller ID information. In Hyper Terminal I'm able to connect to the modem as a TAPI device (Banksia Wave SP56) and see the results from the distinctive ring i.e. Ring1, Ring2 or Ring3 and I'm able to see the Caller ID info. I'm unable to connect to the device as a COM port, even though windows says it is connected to COM3. Regards, Neil Wrightson. Email nwrightson at bigpond dot com |

Hi, A local department store is selling a device called a ViewSonic Airpanel. This is a 15" or 17" TFT touchscreen designed to be carried around like a large tablet PC.=20 From what I can understand, it is a windows CE machine that connects back to a XP box via a WiFi interface and runs explorer or other apps remotly on the other XP box ie I think it may be terminal services. From pressing the power up button to running explorer on the XP box takes 3 seconds. This would make a great interface to MH, perhaps a bit expensive. Does anybody know how this works? is it Terminal services or something similiar that would allow us to use this on a smaller CE box? Regards, Neil Wrightson. Email nwrightson at bigpond dot com |
