Ian,
Hopefully you are using the C++ string class vice the C pointer =
crap (dangerous). If not, I would recommend you do. There is a find() =
operator for that class. You can find an excellent tutorial on the =
string class at =
http://www.icce.rug.nl/docs/cplusplus/cplusplus04.html#l50.

>What is the runtime error? the runtime error is the usual Windows take-it-back-to-whoever-sold-it-to-you jobby... not fantastically specific :O( >I haven't tried this is a windows program but it's okay in console mode? yeah i've had hardly any trouble with the stl stuff in console mode - it's only when its built for windows that problems start appearing. it's especially annoying because i've been using the console to develop modules and make sure they're working, and then when i move them into a proper windows app, they blow up without much hint of what's wrong. i've tried using the debugger on it (gdb with insight frontend) and it goes in to the std::list constructor before dying, so i take it there's a problem with the stl, or some compiler option i'm setting/not setting which is needed. richard _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. |

Hi,
there was a recent posting about using Microsoft's htmlhelp.lib with
Dev-CPP or mingw. I am interested in using the Microsoft's Device Driver
Development kit with Dev-CPP? This is a lot of libs and .h files. Is
this possible? Did anybody try it? Or is there any other way to access
memory at physical address, IRQs and DMAs from Windows apps in Dev-CPP?
Thank you

Hi all,
i tried to run Dev-CPP over our network (FreeBSD 4.2 + Samba 2.0.8).
However, it needs to have write permision to DEV-CPP.INI - otherwise it
crashes. Dev-CPP is in a write protected directory on the server. I
wouldn't like to change permisions of this file and also I would like
all users to have their own copy of Dev-CPP in their home directories.
Does anybody know how to do it?
I tried deleting Dev-CPP.INI from the server and moving it to C:\WINDOWS
or other directories on PATH, but nothing worked. I searched through the
registry hoping to find a key with Dev-CPP location but there is none.
Thank you

Subject: [Dev-C++] stl and windows apps
posted this on the forum but hoping that more people will read it here...
i've had some real problems using the stl in programs compiled for windows
(i.e. no console)... vector::push_back, the string constructor and the list
constructor will all cause runtime errors...
does anyone know how to sort this out, or am i going to have to write my own
stl?
here's an example of some code that will die
#include <list>
#include "windows.h"
int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE, HINSTANCE, LPSTR, int)
{
list<int> li;
return 0;
}
thanks in advance,
richard

Maybe this is not the best to talk in "Dev-C++ mailing list" but you cantry to use "Qt" that is freeware, also. To search for specific text you can use some of the functions in the library string.h _______________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? > how to search through text for a specified word.
You can use:
strstr( const char *string, const char *strCharSet );
The first parameter is your text and the second is the word.
The function returns a pointer to the beginning of the word in the text.
p.s. you have to include <string.h>

Here follows a snippet of the GNU C library
Hope this helps
Chemanuel
**********************************************************************
Search Functions
This section describes library functions which perform various kinds of
searching operations on strings and arrays. These functions are
declared in the header file string.h.
Function: char * strchr (const char *string, int c)
The strchr function finds the first occurrence of the character c
(converted to a char) in the null-terminated string beginning at
string. The return value is a pointer to the located character, or a
null pointer if no match was found.
For example,
strchr ("hello, world", 'l')
=> "llo, world"
strchr ("hello, world", '?')
=> NULL
The terminating null character is considered to be part of the string,
so you can use this function get a pointer to the end of a string by
specifying a null character as the value of the c argument.
Function: char * strstr (const char *haystack, const char *needle)
This is like strchr, except that it searches haystack for a substring
needle rather than just a single character. It returns a pointer into
the string haystack that is the first character of the substring, or a
null pointer if no match was found. If needle is an empty string, the
function returns haystack.
For example,
strstr ("hello, world", "l")
=> "llo, world"
strstr ("hello, world", "wo")
=> "world"

There are quite some tutorials that teach how to create windows applications. You can find a list at http://www.geocities.com/josempadron/eng/tutorials.htm You can learn from source code. I recommend Programmers Heaven web site and the books "Programming Windows" & "Programming the User Interface" (or something like that). You can get the links to source code at http://www.geocities.com/josempadron/eng/links.htm --- Ian Weston <lak...@ho...> escribió: > Hi all. please could someone tell me how one would go about making > things in > a windows app, such as: > > showing text > area's where you enter text > drop down menu's > buttons > radio butons. > > i know there is a lot there, but i would be really greatful if even > just one > was answered. > > thanks. > _________________________________________________________________________ > Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at > http://www.hotmail.com. > > > _______________________________________________ > Dev-cpp-users mailing list > Dev...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try int main () and a couple of cin.get(); before the return 0.

I have been searching for an answer to this problem for a few months. I have decided to try on the list again, but asking a slightly different question: Does anyone have or know where to get a ".a" version of the library htmlhelp.lib? I think my problem lies in the fact that I am using htmlhelp.lib from Microsoft and Dev-C++ only likes .a files. Where are the original sources for htmlhelp.lib and how can I recompile them into a .a? My problem is this: I am trying to add help to my program (surely some people can do it, the Dev-C++ IDE has it!) - that is a Help menu item. I have got the menu but when I call the function HtmlHelp() nothing happens. If I try GetLastError() the message box doesn't even show up! If you know how to add HTML help (chm file) to a program, don't worry about all the errors I'm talking about above, just please try and help me by going through it step by step. I've got my .chm file which I made with the Microsoft Html Help compiler and a shareware Help file builder. Or, if you know how to make a WinHelp() that would be good, but I prefer HTMLhelp. If worst comes to worst, I might have to just open this file like I would from the command prompt. How do you do that (Like calling system() in DOS programming eg. system(C:\hello.exe); opens hello.exe from within your program)? Thanks in advance to anyone who can post a meaningful reply! Ramana |

You need to include "#include <stdlib.h>" , no quotes, to get it to work.
