Even the latest full package of Dev-C++ still uses dllwrap. Which is slow and old. :P -- Greetings, Balázs |

Dear Users, I need to build some pictures on the screen and it must be in a DOS window program (Console Application). I can use the Borland compilers that still support graphics.h (line, clearviewport, circle, etc, etc, etc). -->Is there any library in Dev/gcc that gives me the same functions? -->If don´t, can I link in only one executabele file a borland .obj file with anothers gcc .o files? A couple of questions. =20 Is there a way to rebuild the library cache? It crashed the first time = I started the application after upgrading. It also doesn't appear to be = completing code. Is there a snippet of code that I can use to test the = code completion features? =20 I downloaded many of the available packages. Is there an interface to = access the new items through the application or do you have to find them = in the application directory? See void* as a pointer of unknown type. If you do
char *charptr;
void *voidptr = xx;
charptr = (char*)voidptr;
then you tell the compiler that you know for sure that the typeless
voidptr is actually ok to treat as a pointer to char.

When compiling tutorial examples, I keep getting 'invalid conversion =
from' errors. What do they mean?
For example 'invalid conversion from 'void*' to 'CHAR*'
or 'invalid conversion from 'void*' to 'HFONT__*' occuring on this piece =
of code under WndProc:
case WM_CREATE:
{
HFONT hfDefault;
HWND hEdit;
hEdit =3D CreateWindowEx(WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE, "EDIT", "",=20
WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_VSCROLL | WS_HSCROLL | ES_MULTILINE | =
ES_AUTOVSCROLL | ES_AUTOHSCROLL,=20

NULL);
if(hEdit =3D=3D NULL)
MessageBox(hwnd, "Could not create edit box.", "Error", MB_OK | =
MB_ICONERROR);
hfDefault =3D GetStockObject(DEFAULT_GUI_FONT);
SendMessage(hEdit, WM_SETFONT, (WPARAM)hfDefault, MAKELPARAM(FALSE, =
0));
}
break;
Thanks for any suggestions,

It normally doesn't help you to know about different scheduling algorithms, since your OS will perform the scheduling for you. About scheduling, there are a large number of good books. Look for operating system internals or similar as keywords. /Per W On Fri, 31 Oct 2003, Smitha V. Hi , I try to use DevCpp to compile some code coming from Linux , and being port with VC7. Everything fine except during the link. It is said that my command line is too long while linking ? Do you know if there is some option or workaround for this problem ? Thank you. |

Hi all, The current release of devcpp is only support gcc 3.2. However, the newest version of gcc is 3.3.x. Accordingly to the documentation of gcc, some new features will only found on 3.3.x, I wonder why devcpp don't upgrade the compiler to the new version ???? |

Is there anyway to include the version info (in the project options) into my code at compile time? i.e. I want my application's title bar to contain the major,minor and build number. Are there any special preprocessor directives that I can use? It's a pain having to copy it every time I do a build and it's too easy to forget to update. Thanks Paul |

Hello, Thanks for response. I got it: The third parameter was wrong, should be: LPDIRECTSOUNDBUFFER lpDSBuffer; IDirectSound_CreateSoundBuffer( lpDS, &dsbd, &lpDSBuffer, NULL ); I still don't know what doesn't it compile without modyfing dsound.h and mmsystem.h. do you have the same problem? I think I see a problem, IDirectSound_CreateSoundBuffer( &pdsbuffer, &dsbd, &pdsbuffer, NULL ); why is there an underscore therE? and secondly (important) you must get a pointer to an interface and then use that pointer to access the interface functions. Try that and see if it helps. My opinion differs. I am only offering an alternative that may provide
alain the means
to get the end result he wants w less code modification. I imagine he
could as easily configure
Dev-C++ to use borlands compiler/libs/dlls. His choice. But,
I have no issue with my application utilizing the cygwin dll.
In my opinion, cygwin more than makes up for that by:
providing a posix/linux/unix env to work in
providing ~all the tools of a *nix environment
allowing me to run any Xwindows client i desire
providing me the ease to take most any *nix source code download &
untar it; type ./configure; type make; type make install and be
done w/o
having to re-write the code
providing me the ease of use to move code that I am working on from
*nix to
Win* and back.
etc, etc
how do you define native code?
The cygwin dll( c code compiled on windows to run on windows) is as
native as any of the mingw .dll/.a files. And they (the mingw files)
are 3rd party libs.

But your application will be dependent on the Cygwin DLLs, which can be a nuisance. Subject: [Dev-C++] Get socket with socket function Hi all, I managed to compile a simple program that should just wait for an icoming connection on a inet type socket. I did it under Mac OS X and Linux, and I want to do the same thing with dev-cpp. Due to explanation give on this mailing list (thanks for your quick and usefull answers), I change the code to use winsock.h instead of sys/socket.h. I added the necessary library and DLLs. The program starts correctly and get it the function to create the socket file descriptor (it is very simple) : int sockfd; sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0); BUT the result of socket function is always -1 (sockfd = -1). What could be the cause of that ? I found a similar example of socket creation for windows, I did exactly the same as in the example. The only thing I have found in "socket" man page is : "A -1 is returned if an error occurs" But how can an error happen at this step ? Thank you for any advice. Best regards. |

Where did you inform DevC++ that you wanted to link your application with the mysql library? From the compiler output, you can see where the linker looks for libraries (-L"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib"). However, that is not enough. You also have to tell it which extra libraries you need, such as -lmySQL. There are no Dev C++ Implemented Basic Library, since Dev C++ isn't a compiler but an IDE.
