It took a little searching but I have found what I think you want. The path for a desktop image is stored in the Registry. I don't know a great deal about the registry, how it's organised, what various keys mean, but I think the one you want is "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop" and "Wallpaper" (you can look it up with RegEdit). There is other data under that key heading, which I think will tell you other status information about the desktop appearance. There is probably a reference somewhere for information like this. Try the MSDN website? To access the key you can use the RegOpenKeyEx() and RegQueryValue() functions which are detailed in the Win32 API. If you need any help using these functions just ask. Sorry I don't have more info, but I hope this gets you started. If you want I will work up an example when I have some spare time. There may also be an enum or get fuction of some sort that will retrieve this information for you, if anyone else knows it? The behaviour of the programs built with dev is that if the complete path is not provided, the program search the file not in its own directory, it searchs in the dev-cpp folder, so you must give the whole path or move the archive to C:/DevCpp/, if there is where ou installed dev. It should run one your toshiba fine. It may be a little slow, but shouldn't too bad. I myself ran DevCpp on a machine of similar specs and it worked fine. As for DevCpp on Linux, it should run on nearly every Linux box with GCC and Xwindows. Downside is that the current version is a beta, and I myself have experience quite a few bugs. I would recommend using emacs for right now until DevCpp for Linux gets better. Quoting "Christopher D. Greetings! What are the minimum system requirements for dev-cpp 4 for the windows and linux versions? I couldn't find that info on the website. I'm taking classes at the local college to become a web developer and would like to do my homework assignments away from home on my laptop (a Toshiba 420CDS with a Pentium 100 and 40MB RAM). Since I'm taking intro courses over the next year, I'm not doing any heavy duty programming with my laptop. I got MS Visual C++ 6 at home if I need to do a complex homework assignment. Will dev-cpp 4 work well on my laptop with either Windows 98 or Linux (SuSE 7.3 and the Black Box window manager)? Thanks! Christopher Reimer |

Hi all! I was wondering... Is it possible to read the path to the current desktop-picture chosen in windows? Eg. if someone has chosen "C:/Documents/MyPic.bmp" as deesktop-picture, is it then posibble to retrieve that path? Thanks! - stein |

Hello, I have downloaded the newest mingw from there site. How can I install it for use with dev-c++ ? Some days ago here was a posting that I have the zip file only extract in the dev/bin directory, but it seems to me the directory structure in the zip is different from the structure of dev/bin. Thanks for every answer. greetings Horst |

You made a typo, wrote int maim(void) instead of int main(void). In
addition you made mistakes (e.g. forgot the "do" in do-while). Also you
code in preANSI C++ style. I do not know what you wanted to do so i made
it to have some basic logic. Your code fixed and ANSI C++ compliant:
/*This program verifies data.
Jac Lyn Owenby
280-01 Prog 1
*/
#include <iostream>
int main(void)
{
using namespace std;
//Declarations
int num1;
int num2;
int num3;
int num;
//Statements
cout << "\nPlease enter data to be validated." <<endl;
while(cin>> num >> num1 >> num2 >> num3)
;
return 0;
}
The above code written in a better way:
/*This program verifies data.
Jac Lyn Owenby
280-01 Prog 1
*/
#include <iostream>
int main()
{
using std::cin;
using std::cout;
using std::endl;
//Declarations
int num1, num2, num3, num;
//Statements
cout << "\nPlease enter data to be validated." <<endl;
while(cin>> num >> num1 >> num2 >> num3)
;
}

This is probably an elementary problem; however, I have only been using Dev C++ for a short time and writing code is a little confusing. I'm writing code that validates numerical data. When I run my program, I come up with a linker problem. Can anyone please help? Thanks Jac Lyn |
