No, you can't use an old c++ manual (or actually C manual). It must be a broken manual. The runtime library must know the physical size of the variable to be = able to initialize it. For printf() you send a value. The standard says that functions without = a prototype - or variadric functions - should have the variables upgraded from float to double on call. This makes printf() support float and double. However, scanf() doesn't take a float our double. It takes a pointer to = a float or double. To perform the assign - it has to look at the "formatting" parameter to decide what it should assign to. %f specifies float %lf specifies double %Lf specifies long double (when supported) /Per W On Thu, 23 Feb 2006, Titi Anggono wrote: > Hi all, > > I tried the following code > = =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D > #include <stdio.h> > #include <stdlib.h> > #include <conio.h> > > main(){ > double a,b; > scanf("%f",&a); > printf("\n"); > scanf("%f",&b); > printf("\n\n%f %f",a,b); > getch(); > exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); > } > = =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D > I enter any numbers and the output is > 0.0000 0.00000 > but, when I change the "double" with "float", the code > gives me the right answer. > > Is there any explanation why I can't use "double" with > "%f" in dev-cpp ? He is either too stupid, or = was trying to piss us off. I believe UOL policy doesn't allow them to simply turn off the AntiSpam=20 service, and considering that their anti-spam software is dumb enough=20 that it can't identify messages from mailing lists (that IMHO should be=20 silently ignored by their filter), it will be a long battle to convince=20 them to 1) bother a user that pays money, 2) fix their stupid filtering=20 software or 3) convince them that the user is purposely damaging an=20 entire community. Yeah, I think unsubscribing him from the list is faster. If we only had=20 some admins around here... maybe we can try contacting the SF staff=20 directly and see if they can remove this user from this mailing list. --- Daniel K. But now that you mentioned %Lf, I would like to confirm with anyone here = who has VC++; what does happen when trying to printf a long double on=20 VC++? Subject: Re: [Dev-C++] "Anti-spam" mails from UOL My aim was to get a number of people to show their irritation by sending complaints to ab...@uo... and telling them that _they_ are explicitly spamming users. On the mailing list side, there is nothing sourceforge can do, since = they never see these "anti-spam" mails. UOL have a very broken system that can't correctly detect = list-originating mails, despite the huge number of extra fields available in the mail header: ---------- Precedence: bulk List-Unsubscribe: <https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users>, <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=3Dunsubscribe= > List-Id: Dev-C++ users mailing list = <dev-cpp-users.lists.sourceforge.net> List-Post: <mailto:dev...@li...> List-Help: <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=3Dhelp> List-Subscribe: <https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users>, <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=3Dsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=3Ddev-cpp-users> ---------- If nothing else, they should at least make sure that the source domain lists.sourceforge.net was specifically known. It represents a = significant number of mailing lists and whatever policy UOL might have, that policy = is towards their end users, not towards the mailing lists, i.e. they can = not expect to enforce their policies on us by expecting thousands - or tens = of thousands of registrations in their system. The single action of registering to a mailing list is an acceptance from the end user to consider the list as an accepted sender of mails. /Per W On Fri, 24 Feb 2006, Daniel K. A long double variable will = be 8 byte large, just as a double. In short, there will be no problem = trying to send a long double parameter to a variadic function. Both sender and receiver will assume 8 bytes storage size. It is only code that relies on extra precision and/or range of a long double that will have problems. For example a numeric algorithm using a numerically unstable method of solving an equation might diverge with double numbers while it always have enough precision to converge on a solution with true long doubles. /Per W On Fri, 24 Feb 2006, Daniel K. Halo Friends,
I need some help, some ideas from you........
I want to open a file, and read the lines. The file contents of 2 columns, the known parameter is at the first column and I want to get the parameter at the second column. But the case is that the first column´s parameters are strings with white-spaces (space), and there are tabs to the second column. If there is no white-spaces, I had done it succesfully, by doing:
while (! myfile.eof()){
myfile >> column1 >> column2 >> endl;
if (column1 == index1column1){
index1column2 = column2;
}
else if (column1 == index2column1){
index2column2 = column2;
}
}
so, how is it then if the case of string with whitespaces?
thank you very much for your help.
regards,
nima

There's no need for renaming files or disturbing Dev-C++'s includes. First place dislin.h and dismgc.a in the directory of your source file(s). If you are not using a project, then on a DOS prompt, navigate to the directory and give the following command. Its way simpler than messing with the library/linker options. Here, pss.cpp is my code and pss.exe is the output file. You may have to add g++.exe to your PATH. g++ -o pss.exe pss.cpp -L. dismgc.a -mwindows If you are using a project, then go to project options and in the linker tab, add the two parameters "dismgc.a" and "-mwindows" (without the quotes). I'm not sure about the minus sign. Please check that. If you are making a console app, you will have to make use of argc[] and argv because DISLIN creates win32 apps (the mwindows switch takes cares of user32, gdi32) which don't permit console IO using printf()/scanf() or cout/cin. -- Rohit V. VC++ doesn't have an long double data type. A long double variable will be 8 byte large, just as a double. In short, there will be no problem trying to send a long double parameter to a variadic function. My aim was to get a number of people to show their irritation by sending complaints to ab...@uo... and telling them that _they_ are explicitly spamming users. On the mailing list side, there is nothing sourceforge can do, since they never see these "anti-spam" mails. UOL have a very broken system that can't correctly detect list-originating mails, despite the huge number of extra fields available in the mail header: ---------- Precedence: bulk List-Unsubscribe: <https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users>, <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=unsubscribe> List-Id: Dev-C++ users mailing list <dev-cpp-users.lists.sourceforge.net> List-Post: <mailto:dev...@li...> List-Help: <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users>, <mailto:dev...@li...?subject=subscribe> List-Archive: <http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=dev-cpp-users> ---------- If nothing else, they should at least make sure that the source domain lists.sourceforge.net was specifically known. It represents a significant number of mailing lists and whatever policy UOL might have, that policy is towards their end users, not towards the mailing lists, i.e. they can not expect to enforce their policies on us by expecting thousands - or tens of thousands of registrations in their system. The single action of registering to a mailing list is an acceptance from the end user to consider the list as an accepted sender of mails. /Per W On Fri, 24 Feb 2006, Daniel K. The AntiSpam UOL is a service provided for users that opt in for the service, so the fault is solely on the user. He is either too stupid, or was trying to piss us off. I believe UOL policy doesn't allow them to simply turn off the AntiSpam service, and considering that their anti-spam software is dumb enough that it can't identify messages from mailing lists (that IMHO should be silently ignored by their filter), it will be a long battle to convince them to 1) bother a user that pays money, 2) fix their stupid filtering software or 3) convince them that the user is purposely damaging an entire community. Yeah, I think unsubscribing him from the list is faster. No, you can't use an old c++ manual (or actually C manual).
It must be a broken manual.
The runtime library must know the physical size of the variable to be able
to initialize it.
For printf() you send a value. The standard says that functions without a
prototype - or variadric functions - should have the variables upgraded
from float to double on call. This makes printf() support float and
double.
However, scanf() doesn't take a float our double. It takes a pointer to a
float or double. To perform the assign - it has to look at the
"formatting" parameter to decide what it should assign to.
%f specifies float
%lf specifies double
%Lf specifies long double (when supported)

Hi all,
I tried the following code
============================
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <conio.h>
main(){
double a,b;
scanf("%f",&a);
printf("\n");
scanf("%f",&b);
printf("\n\n%f %f",a,b);
getch();
exit(EXIT_SUCCESS);
}
==============================
I enter any numbers and the output is
0.0000 0.00000
but, when I change the "double" with "float", the code
gives me the right answer.
Is there any explanation why I can't use "double" with
"%f" in dev-cpp ? Maybe I use old c++ manual lol. How
can I print the "double" number ?

Hi all, I'm just trying to use Win32 common controls in Dev-cpp with "Support Windows XP themes" activated in project's options. Actually, I simply use the Win32 application template, where I added following lines of code, just after main window creation : =09HWND button =3D CreateWindowEx( =09=090, =09=09"button", "Cancel", =09=09WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | BS_PUSHBUTTON, =09=09100, 200, 100, 20, =09=09hwnd, (HMENU) IDOK, =09=09hThisInstance, =09=09NULL =09); Actually, that code works (i see push button) when XP styles are desactivated. When I activate that option, the CreateWindowEx fails with error "The class does not exist". Sorry, but I'm new to win32 programming, and I have to maintain a old app. If someone has a little idea of what can solve that issue, that would be fine ! -- Thierry Pierron |

Hi Derek and all others, the README.WIN instructions are useless in connection with the "DISLIN + DEV-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2)" problem. #include <koolplot.h>

#include "koolplot.h"
When I substitut line

plotted
with line:
const double NOPLOT =3D 0;//nan(""); // A point of that value will not be=
=20
plotted
in koolplot.h I obtain errors which depend ONLY on LINKED LIBRARIES.
in situation
1) -lkoolplot
there are linker errors like this:
[Linker error] undefined reference to=20
`std::__default_alloc_template<true, 0>::deallocate(void*, unsigned int)'
[Linker error] undefined reference to=20
`std::__default_alloc_template<true, 0>::deallocate(void*, unsigned int)'

there are linker errors like this:

[Linker error] undefined reference to `swapbuffers'
[Linker error] undefined reference to=20
`std::__default_alloc_template<true, 0>::deallocate(void*, unsigned int)'
The best situation is 3) but it still not OK.
In my opinion the main reason for which KOOLPLOT works with "Quincy 2005"=
=20
and
doesn't work with "Dev-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2)" is, that Quincy uses "WinBGIm=20
(v.6.0)"
and "Dev-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2)" works well with "WinBGIm (v.3.52)". I think
that current version of KOOLPLOT is not compatible with this older versio=
n
WinBGIm. I tried used "WinBGIm (v.6.0)" together with "Dev-C++ (v.=20

for compiling very easy sources which were compiled with "WinBGIm (v.3.52=

withot problems but there were errors. This separate problem I sent to th=

Quincy, Koolplot and WinBGIm v. 6.0(include sources) are available here:

WinBGIm (v.3.52)(include sources) is available here:

If somebody will have success in problems

hello, if you placed the include files in the dev-cpp include directory, you = might want to try replacing the "'s with <>'s. example: change=20 #include "koolplot.h" to=20 #include <koolplot.h> if you placed them in a subdirectory, then make it: #include <sub_dir>/<koolplot.h> hope this helps some. Guillermo -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... = [mailto:dev...@li...]On Behalf Of Marek = Mal=FD Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2006 6:25 PM To: dev...@li... Subject: [Dev-C++] Does anybody uses KOOLPLOT together with DEV-C++ ? Does anybody uses KOOLPLOT together with Dev-C++ ? Hi, I'am using Dev-C++ v. 4.9.9.2. Since I've downloaded actual WinBGIm files from here http://www14.brinkster.com/aditsu/console I have no problems with WinBGIm graphics used together with current=20 Dev-C++ version. I have just found out that exist C/C++ plotting library named Kooplot which uses WinBGIm graphics - see this page: http://www.codecutter.net/tools/koolplot/index.html I have copied files koolplot.h, Plotdata.h, and Plotstream.h to=20 Dev-C++ include directory and libkoolplot.a to Dev-C++ lib directory as it is written in the above=20 mentioned page, but I'm not able to compile this easy example - some compiler or linker = errors=20 appears... #include "koolplot.h" int main() { Plotdata x(-360, 360), y =3D sin(x) + 3*x; plot(x, y); return 0; } Maybe some settings of Dev-C++ are necessary ... Hello everybody, I'm using Dev-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2). This version of Dev-C++ works with WinBGIm (v.3.52) very well. http://www14.brinkster.com/aditsu/console but now is available WinBGIm (v.6.0) see http://www.codecutter.net/tools/winbgim and this actual wersion of WinBGIm doesn't work with Dev-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2) very well. Some errors were occured when I tried to compile sources which I had compiled with WinBGIm (v.3.52) before without any problems. In other hand WinBGIm (v.6.0) works very well with environment Quincy 2005 http://www.codecutter.net/tools/quincy/index.html but I prefer Dev-C++ because it is much user-friendly than Quincy. So have anyone any idea how make WinBGIm (v.6.0) compatible with Dev-C++ (v. 4.9.9.2) ? If yes I will be appreciative for advice. Marek |
