Hrm!!!
^ is the XOR bitwise operator in C and C++.
Do not even _think_ about using it as power operator. The code will
compile, but the result is _very_ wrong.

Scott:
You could also just do this:
hp =3D3D weight * ((speed / 234)^3)
Using the ^ is the same as doing pow((speed/234),3);
Cheers,
Jarren

I'm glad i'm not sending people to the Moon..:) Thanks to everyone, for their prompt and helpful replies, it really makes trying to learn this crap, far more tolerable, with the excellent and quick help from you guys..... It looks to me like you want this:
Power =3D Weight / pow((ET / 5.825), 3);
Remember, the first parameter of pow() is the number you want raised
to a certain exponent.

Should of mentioned
I used 3500 pounds (weight)
12.8 seconds (ET)
Should give me 330 (Power)
However power is giving me 1.38
Power =3D Weight/ET/pow(time,3);
The formula is: hp =3D weight / (ET / 5.825)3*
So what stupid thing am i doing wrong?
Cheers
Scott.
#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
#define time 5.825
/*The formula is: hp =3D weight / (ET / 5.825)3*/
main()
{
float Weight, ET, Power;
printf("Enter the weight in pounds : ");
scanf("%f",&Weight);
printf("Enter the ET in Seconds : ");
scanf("%f",&ET);
Power =3D Weight/ET/pow(time,3);
printf("Power EST is %3.2f",Power);
}

Okay thanks to everyone, i'm looking into POW
and the maths.h.
This code example gives me Power as 1.38
And i wanted it to equal 330 HP....
Iv'e tried a few variations, but still no luck!
#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
#define time 5.825
/*The formula is: hp =3D weight / (ET / 5.825)3*/
main()
{
float Weight, ET, Power;
printf("Enter the weight in pounds : ");
scanf("%f",&Weight);
printf("Enter the ET in Seconds : ");
scanf("%f",&ET);
Power =3D Weight/ET/pow(time,3);
printf("Power EST is %3.2f",Power);
}
I'm sure it's just a matter of the POW being
in the wrong place...?
Cheers,
Scott. |

You either just write x*x*x or you #include <math.h>
and then write pow(x,3).

Okay another simple C question....
I would like to make a quick HP calculator in C.
(just mucking around with DevC)
I would like to ask for user input, and then show the total...
Something like:
#include <stdio.h>
main()
{
float Weight, Speed, Time;
printf("Enter the weight : ");
scanf("%f",&Weight);
printf("Enter the Speed : ");
scanf("%f",&Speed);
Time =3D Weight*Speed;
printf("\n Time is =A3%5.2f",total);
}
The formula is: hp =3D weight * (speed / 234)3
How does one used cubed? is it something like 234*x*x ?
Anyone shed some simple light...
The example above is just something i imagine it will look like...
Cheers,
Scott.

Hi guys, Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 I'm trying to add a compiler set but after I configure it through the various tabs (adding paths, etc) it starts doing a MAKE (first from DMC and then from MINGW). I can tell it's trying to run MAKE repeatedly because my firewall gives me 4 popups (two sets of once for Digital Mars MAKE, then MINGW make). I don't know why this is happening, I don't have a project or source file open. And it refuses to let me override programs for G++, GDB, etc., always restoring directory pointers to MINGW components. (I'm trying to clear these because DMC doesn't have any equivalents, I think). Has anyone added a compiler set? Thanks, Israel --=20 http://www.fastmail.fm - Same, same, but different=85 |

gcc/MinGW does not have a built-in garbage collector. Execute->Clean simple runs `make clean`, which deletes any temporary/object files from your project that are sitting around. To emit your color numbers as integers you have to multiply them with a
constant to increase them from the 0..1 range to span 0.255. Then you
typecast this value to an integer and use %u instead of %f to print them.
When it comes to colors, it all depends on which environment you are in.
If you print to a console supporting ANSI ESC sequences, you can use these
sequences to control the emitted color.
An example is:
printf("\x1b[1m\x1b[32mhello ");
printf("\x1b[32mthere ");
printf("\x1b[35mcolorful ");
printf("\x1b[0mworld\n");
However, the text console in Windows normally don't support the ESC
sequences, resulting in a very ugly printout.
More info about use of ANSI ESC sequences can be found at:
http://www.evergreen.edu/biophysics/technotes/program/ansi_esc.htm
If you are in a graphical environment, then there are normally better
output methods than printf, allowing control not just over color but over
font, printding direction, slanting, ...
Windows have a lot of attribute functions to control the output to the
currently selected DC (Device Context). SetTextColor() and SetBkColor()
are good functions too look a bit closer at :)
Remember that most Windows API have online-browseable documentation
available directly on the Microsoft web site.

Also, why are the GTK(mm) added to my compilation if this is a console
program?
What do I need to change here?
TIA

Newbie C, help... Is there a way to write the number as 255=20 instead of 0.1 or 0.13434 etc..... sprintf(str, "R:%1.2f G:%1.2f B:%1.2f", color[0], color[1], color[2]); And also is it possible to change the text color? sprintf(str, "Red:%1.2f Green:%1.2f Blue:%1.2f", color[0], color[1], = color[2]); I would like have Red (in red), Green in Green, and Blue text.... Is this easy or possible to do in C? This function is obviosuly part of a 3D plugin, but it uses C commands, like sprintf.... Cheers, Scott. |

> If you stiil have problems I will send an example. I'm still having problems. A simple example will help for sure. :-D Also, if only two files are needed, what am I supposed to do with the rest of the unzipped/installed stuff? I wonder if you could walk me quickly through a Dislin install. I've installed dislin in E:\dislin and my Dev-C++ is in E:\devcpp. -- Rohit V. All errors are generated by the g++ compiler. However, that is not the complete message - just part of the information where the error was found, and how the compiler managed to navigate to the specific file. There is also the actuall error message, i.e. what was wrong at line 2 of bank.h. /Per W On Fri, 28 Oct 2005, Safak =D6kmen wrote: > Can you tell me where to look for a list with explanations to compiler > errors like: > > 2 D:\c++lernen\bank.h:2, from kunde.cpp In file included from bank.h:2, f= rom > kunde.cpp > > ? > > Are they g++ compiler errors or generated by Dev-C++ ? > > Thank you, > Safak > |

Can you tell me where to look for a list with explanations to compiler errors like: 2 D:\c++lernen\bank.h:2, from kunde.cpp In file included from bank.h:2, fro= m kunde.cpp ? Are they g++ compiler errors or generated by Dev-C++ ? Thank you, Safak |

Is there somebody out who can compile the real mysql++ library from tangensoft. I know the devpack from libmysql works. But this is C and de mysql++ library is really good. Does or Could someone make a devpack from it. I'm always stuck with compiling it at ResUse and ResNSel classes. I can't figure out why. I always get the warning message that attribute is ignored with actually isn't. Anybody ? Kind regards Wim |
