I want to create two classes that contain pointers to each other, but I
keep getting "Syntax error before *" I know a class can contain a
pointer to itself, but why not to others before it is fully defined?
The classes are declared in their own header files, which are
reciprocally included in the other... The function coding were in
separate .cpp files.. What am I forgetting?

For this, I need to seperate the Folder path and filename from a single string. I vaguely remember that there was a function to do this in the standard C library. Can someone please tell me the name and the header file for that function. Or else i'll have to manually code a function which does this. In C++ as a language you can write assembly directly in style
inline void test()
{
asm(...);
}
I do not know anything about assembly but it has an example at

Subject: [Dev-C++] [Dev-C++]: Inline Assembly Code
Hi,
I was wondering how to include assembly level code in C++ files. Can I
do it inline (like in the good old Turbo C) or do I have to create a Lib
in MASM32 or NASM and then Link ?
Thnx in advance,
Jeethu Rao

Lo there ------------ I have had the same problem writing plugins for Sonique and I think it is a Micro$oft thing for I have also tried to compile the DLL with Borland Compilers Like borland C++ 5 (not the Builder) and it still does not work if a Micro$oft product pick the DLL up and opens it.. OK lets be honest if you look at the DLL the function names does look different than what you made it But that realy does not effect the way it is read (considering it is static or not) I have noticed that the Borland Compilers add Debug info entry points to the DLL even if you say exclude that :( Anyways coming back to the Bloodshed DLL. If you compile the DLL the linker will say the following Warning: no export definition file provided dllwrap will create one, but may not be what you want No that says that ya must write a def file for this dll to say where the entry points are If I amm correct.. But hey that is geussing.. Anyways when creating a DLL project the example given there is kinda good and okay.. Well that is enough blabing.. I hope some of this may help in a way to solve the problem for I dont know a answer for this yet.. have tried a lot of stuff but no answer yet.. Good Luck Johannes PS : Sorry I am sending to your private but the list does not accept all my mail meaning you will never see this.. I tried Bloodshed Dev-C++ v4 and v4.01, neither was able to compile a DLL that works. I am using Visual Basic to test my DLLs, so all I have to do is be able to export functions for it to see. It always gives me the error that it does not know the entry point to my DLL. I do have an entry point, and the same code compiles and makes a working dll with Visual C++. Please tell me what I might be doing wrong. (Or if anyone can, please include sample code of a working DLL that does anything simple even. A function that returns a number is simple enough.) Thank You. -James Alton |

Hi, try the OpenGL tutorial at http://www.gamecoding.co.uk/. They've got a very good OpenGL tutorial, specifically targeting Dev C++. They also have a small zip file in their Download section with the GL and GLUT headers and libs for Dev C++. Hope this helps you. I inserted the #define PVOID void * statement into the top of my main.cpp file and the PVOID problems disappear (i think) but new ones replace it. Most problems seem to concern special windows types (like PVOID). They are mostly syntax errors and are found in files that contain typedefs for windows types to other types (eg. typedef UINT_PTR WPARAM;) Do I need a special include file which i don't have that has the definitions of all these types? What is a syntax error? Why would this cause a syntax error? thanks all Ramana (ra...@my...) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. |

The following should have read "Note that only one "using namespace std;" statement is required ....." I left out the "one", changes meaning of sentence. Usually the namespace statement is placed immediatly after the #include directives, It does not have to be however, as long as it occurs before the library function calls. Sorry about typo. ray w. You can use #include <iostream> without the ".h", but you have to follow it somewhere with a "using namespace std;" statement. This can be anywhere before you use any of the library function in iostream. The use of the namespace statement is the new C++ standard and is implemented in Dev C++. Note that only "using namespace std;" statement is required in the program reguardless of how many #include directives you use. At 02:37 PM 6/27/01 +0700, you wrote: >I try to correct them. .. > >1. Hi,
I have defined one procedure in Masm32, I have output as *.lib and I can't
given for mingw
compiler the parameter for this lib or maybe the lib format is wrong? The
linker sendet only
undefined symbol out and not wrong file format for me MASM32 librarry.

I try to correct them. .. 1. I think the correct code is #include <iostream.h> not #include <iostream> 2. The prototype of: void getInput(string, float&); is not match to function declaration: void getInput(string name, float salary) Second parameter must be fixed to: float& salary 3. The same problem also causes of different prototypes to declarations. The other prototypes of: float calcFwt(float, float); float calcFica(float, float); float calcNetPay(float, float, float); void displayInfo(string, float, float, float, float); respectively are not match (type or number of parameters) to function declarations: float calcFwt(float salary, const float FWT_RATE, float fwtTax) float calcFica(float &salary, const float FICA_RATE, float ficaTax) float calcNetPay(float salary, float fwtTax, float ficaTax, float netPay) void displayInfo(string &name, float salary, float fwtTax, float ficaTax, float netPay) If it's hard to make them consistent, dont make prototypes. Just put your functions before main(). ___Nurhidayat___ |

Hi, I wonder if you can tell me if DEVC++'s OpenGL has glaux libraries?? I am learning from nehe.gamedev.net now and in tutorial 7 they say i need a glaux library so i am going to get devC++ as my compiler but i need to know if it has that... Thanks Steve.B Oh and thanks to johanne and everyone else who helped me with my earlier problems!!! |

Hi listers! I am in the very beginning of my C and C++ journey and I have to develop a very difficult project (at least for me). I am working on a temperature measurement system that sends the temperature sensor information to a computer. I want to make a graphic of temperature x time to show the temperature changing trend. It will be an on-line measurement system, then every time temperature changes, graphic will change too. I know it is not easy, but I'd like some help and ideas on how to do that, maybe some good book or tutorial, web page, source code, anything! Now i am in the researching phase of this project, so any kind of help will be highly appreciated. Regards, Flavio de Souza fla...@ne... ICQ:78458203 |

After compiling the following program and getting no errors, I tried to build
an executable and received external errors. Can anyone help me?
//T7AppE08.cpp - displays employee's name, FWT, FICA tax, and net pay
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
//function prototypes
void getInput(string, float&);
float calcFwt(float, float);
float calcFica(float, float);
float calcNetPay(float, float, float);
void displayInfo(string, float, float, float, float);
int main()
{
const float FWT_RATE = float(.2);
const float FICA_RATE = float(.08);
string name = "";
float salary = 0.0;
float fwtTax = 0.0;
float ficaTax = 0.0;
float netPay = 0.0;
//enter input items
getInput(name, salary);
//calculate taxes
calcFwt(salary, FWT_RATE);
calcFica(salary, FICA_RATE);
//calculate net pay
calcNetPay(salary, fwtTax, ficaTax);
//display name, gross, taxes, and net
displayInfo(name, salary, fwtTax, ficaTax, netPay);

I'd say a 3D engine is the code to display a 3D world. I.e., you could create a 3D world in a 3D-modeller, but then you didn't create an engine. (Like, you create some polygons which look like a human, then I'd consider this as 3D-model or 3D-world.) But if you write code to read the 3D-world-data in a program, and display it, then you did create an engine. Even if all it can do are two function read_3d_from_file() and render_3d_to_screen(). > - I am now starting to programm in OPENGL and i was just wondering -how do you create > corners in games like to walk around a corner and gradually see the bend and how to > create doors that can be opened to then load the room behind it? > > I cant find many OpenGL tutorials that tell me anything like these questions and When > i write it in Forums people think im asking them to do it for me but i just want to > know how to do it...im trying my best to get my foot under the door of the Prograamming > industry but i cant find tutorials for opengl and cant buy online books because of lack > of credit card (im only 16) I keep seeing links to http://nehe.gamedev.net as answer to this sort of question, and I just opened the site - and it seems like it has lots of OpenGL tutorials of any kind. And they seem to be able to compile in dev-c++ with no problem, once you include the opengl .h files. (But it also looks like you could well need several months to understand everything what's going on in OpenGL code :) ) Good luck with 3D programming.. Elias Pschernig |
