Hi!

This is my first tries to develope for PC. Dev C++ is looks like a great
compiler, but I have some problem with the texteditor. C needs ; for many
times, but I cannot type it because AltGr+, for remove comment. When I try
to remove this shortcut nothing happens. Please help, me!

You need to cast the void * when calling the function. Example:

int function(int x) {
	// do something
}

int main(void) {
	void * x = NULL;

	// function(x); // no

	function( (int) x); // okay
}

Yes, this is our principal problem. We will probably try to maintain Dev-C++ 
Packages for both versions then.

I will make two packages for version 4.9.7.0, one with gcc 2.95.3 and the

Hi there

Compiling a small project to help one of the subscriber, I had the following bad surprise:

I downloaded the CStaticHyperlink class from codebytes but when I try to compile the class, I 
get this message from the compiler :

"ANSI C++ forbids implicit conversion from void* when passing parameters"

The error occurs at the line where there is the CreateWindowClassEx of the hyperlink window 
control in the class constructor. I cannot understand what's wrong. And I cannot understand 
either what does this message tries to tell me.

Anybody could help ?

No, don't copy, leave it with msys and add d:\path\to\msys\1.0\bin to
your PATH.

You've not given me enough to decern the problem.

Hi,
I needed rm.exe so I downloaded MYSYS as advised. I then copied rm.exe
to my MINGW directory. When I try to clean I get the error message
mingw32-make.exe: *** [clean] Error 128.

Another concern is that the size of rm.exe from the MYSYS package is
64k. and a couple of rm.exe files sent to by some good people from
DEV-C++ are just 2k and that give these error messages when used
mingw32-make.exe: *** [clean] Error 128.
mingw32-make.exe: *** [clean] Error 87.

I'll appreaciate your input.

That kind of executables, which are in GCC but not in mingw from the
mingw.exe installer are in the ported software section of http://mingw.or=
g.

To the person who is trying to perform windows programming. I would suggest
the following:

1) Windows is an event driven paradigm. So what you need to do is to
identify which event you need to trap and place the code there.

2) When you restore a window the O/S sends a paint message to your program.
So you need to ensure that your paint message can reconstruct what was on
the screen.

3) The same happens if you resize the window (if and only if the window was
created WS_HREDRAW and the WS_VREDRAW styles)

4) A mouse moves across the screen and you want to trap some of this
information and display it on the screen. The O/S will send a WM_MOUSEMOVE
message (pressing buttons will trigger off other messages too) It is here
that you need to record the mouse coordinates so that the paint message can
display this information on the screen. This could be recorded in a vector
(or array) of points. The coordinates are held in the lParam (x =
LOWORD(lParam); y = HIWORD(lParam); ) The paint message can then link up all
of these points (repetitive LineTo functions or PolyLine if it's an array).
BUT and here's is the trap the mouse move will not trigger off a paint
message. So you need to trigger it yourself with a call to the
InvalidateRect function.

Successful windows programming requires you to step back and think which
event (or events) you should be using to perform the functionality you
require. And be consistent - for example always use the Paint to draw onto
the screen. Painting can be done elsewhere but that is normally poor
practice leading to potential problems in the future.

But most important of all enjoy it.

1 - do you have an rm program in your path?

I am trying to do a reverse lookup and am confused on how this is done.

DevC++ available.
I can imagine that a updated help for DevC++ will come when there will
be a new stabel version . In fact the old helpfile might not satisfy all
questions because there are a lot of new features in the new version.
But I will think a lot of problems can be fixed in these list.

Yeah, and then save back from it to it. Or could work set mingw dirs as
read only.
I upgraded to 4.9.6.0 yesterday, vUpdate worked, it showed all buttons,
but after some seconds (something like 15 secs), what it takes long from
start connection to take all the information from the server about
announcements and packages. However, I prefered stop it and make an
ordinary download with browser.
