One possibility might be that your computer's not fast enough (as you can't change the screen resolution in GLUT's fullscreen mode) -> use doublebuffering. I never had this problem when using glut, maybe 'cause I always used GLUT_DOUBLEBUFFER. Because of the nonexisting resolution change stuff I switched over to SDL. And you know what? It's better!!! And another thing is: it seems like those devCPP guys don't know a lot about OpenGL. Noone ever helped me when I had problems (so I switched to, please excuse, VisualC++). Anyway, hope the doublebuffer is the problem ... St0fF 64 / meinRAMiSZugrOSs / N30PLA51A |

Hi Ian: In you will have to work with socket connections that is "an interface"=20 to the operating system to send data over a network. Widely used these=20 days in Internet. I am working in an e-mail software, then I had to=20 research a little about it. A socket is very much like a telephone - it's the endpoint of a two-way communications channel. By connecting two sockets together you can pass data between processes, even processes running on different computers, just as you can talk over the telephone once you've made a phone call connecting your telephone with someone else's. You will find many tutorials in internet if you search for : Winsock,=20 socket connection, Windows Sockets, etc. There is a good tutorial called "Windows Sockets: A Quick And Dirty=20 Primer", but I do not remember the http address, anyway you can search=20 for this title. If you wish I have a few pdfs about socket I can send you. Just let me=20 know if you want them. Hope this can help you start. Nor getch() nor textcolor() are ANSI C/C++ functions. They are considered as system extensions. Dev-C++ has getch() but since textcolor() is about graphics in dos, you are looking for some C/C++ graphic library (e.g. alegro). Hi there I am wondering if anybody out there could provide me with some suggestions. I installed the GLUT libraries to Dev C++ 4.01 and ran an example program which made use of GLUT functions. THe program runs fine, but whenever I close the program, I cannot re-open Dev C++. I must always exit it by the ctrl-alt-delete method. Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas? Perhaps I should try it with version 4.0? _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com |

The situations where ANSI C++ code doesn't compile is extremely rare. In fact MINGW32 of Dev-C++ is one of the most ANSI C++ compliant compilers i have ever seen. Can you send us an example ANSI code that refuses to compile? Subject: [Dev-C++] Giving up I give up on DEV-C++ I understand that it's a front end IDE for the gnu compiler that comes in two compilers cygwin, and mingw. My reason for giving up is whatever compiler I use it won't accept ANSI standard code and gives me false linker messages. One good thing I found out is that Bloodshed Software also distributes a Pascal IDE called DEV-PAS which is much more user friendly. Also the Pascal language is much easier to learn (I learned it before I did C) using common English phrases as opposed to C/C++. After reviewing DEV-PAS I found it is a much better IDE for creating Applications, both Windows and DOS console ones. I will still subscribe to this group in the hope of problems being posted and their possible solutions so I can learn more about 32 bit programming using C/C++. I want to thank everyone who has responded to my mail, and want to apologize to those who I gave help and examples that didn't work when I tried them personally. Good Luck and happy programming, Danny |

First, you must include conio.c;
Second: Did you upgraded the mingw compiler?, the new changes conio.* by
other version without the function. Or at least it doesn't work for me.
In the new conio.h the enum colors that says what number is each color
has been deleted. See your conio.h file, there you'll know the version.
If you need I can send you the older versions..

Hi, Jack
I will attempt to answer your question, but I think it is not related to
what is generally known as "conditional compilation".
allow me to use a simple example to better explain the point and excuse me
if I say things which you already know or if I misunderstood your question.
Say that your program is made of two source files and one header file:
hello.c print.h print.c
-------- -------- --------
#include "print.h" #ifndef print_h #include <stdio.h>
int main() #define print_h #include "print.h"
{ void print(const
char *s)
print("Hello world"); void print(const char *); {
return 0; puts(s);
} #endif }
----------------------- -----------------------
-----------------------
After writing the above by Dev editor (and adding them to a project, oddly
one which I would, but can't, name "hello"!), say that you click the
"compile" button: Dev-C++ will compile the two source files and call the
linker to produce the executable file. This is Ok.
If you change something in "hello.c" only, and hit "compile" again you
expect to see:
1) hello.c compiled
2) the linker called to produce the updated executable file
Instead what Dev-C++ does is:
1) compile hello.c
2) compile print.c
3) call the linker to update the executable file
Well actually in my case Dev-C++ says "access violation ..." and refuses to
compile! But that is another story :-)
In any case there is no need to compile "print.c" because it hasn't changed
nor did the header file "print.h" change; IMHO the Dev-C++ approach,
consisting of "always compile everything", is time consuming.
There is more: if you generate a makefile using Dev, you will find out that
the makefile is no smarter than the IDE, I mean it too says: "always
compile everything"
It looks like the "project manager" of Dev-C++ doesn't build a "dependency
table", so it lacks the understanding about what needs to be compiled when;
for instance in the above small program a dependency table should look like
the following: (say that hello.exe is the name of the executable file)
file: depends on: should be updated when it is older than:
hello.exe hello.o, print.o hello.o or print.o by the linker
hello.o hello.c, print.h hello.c or print.h by the compiler
print.o print.c, print.h print.c or print.h by the compiler
So, in the end, you are missing no setting, "always compile everything" is
a bug of DEV-C++.
A possible solution: avoid using Dev-C++ to compile (and build the
executable), use it only as an editor (or use the editor "ConTEXT"
www.fixedsys.com/context), then resort to the program "make" and to a
makefile (of course not generated by Dev) to build/update the executable file.
If you are interested, I can supply an elementary program to generate
simple makefiles suitable for console applications (I lack knowledge of
Windows programming so don't know how to generate such applications); the
generator can be used from the command line or as an external tool of some
editor (for instance "ConTEXT").

Hello Danny846842, I have (or think of having) small knowledge of ANSI C89 and develop only console applications: I find both MinGW gcc 2.95 and Borland BC++ 5.5 fully ANSI compliant. I'm learning ANSI C++ and find BC++ 5.5 close enough to the the standard. I know nothing about Windows programming but, IMHO, Windows applications do not use standard instructions (I'm saying it because I once saw that Windows applications have "WinMain" where ANSI expects "main"). I agree that Dev-C++ is not perfect, especially I do not like the "always compile everything" approach, so I use MinGW gcc (or BC++ 5.5) from the command line (or from within the editor "ConTEXT"); I think that if you develop console applications, you too can use the command line giving C/C++ a second chance. > Let's raise a glass to it ;) > Daniel >Clink< Dev-C++ was my first free c++ IDE. Thanks be to the Bloodshed developers -- you're doing a good job! I moved on to Borland bcc 5.5. and Context (http://www.fixedsys.com/context/) -- both free and this setup does a great job building programs that use certain Win2000 specific API's that mingw and cygwin haven't implemented yet. A small suggestion to the Dev-C++ - if you made the Dev-C++ IDE able to invoke the command line and parse return messages like 'Context' does --- well, that would be the icing on the cake because it could then work with Borland's compiler as well. Sonam ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel Glenfield I found I had to upgrade to VC++ when beginning work in DirectX 8 applications, Dev wasn't easy to work with then. But I found it invaluable starting off in the big world of programming. Let's raise a glass to it ;) Daniel >From: Dan...@ao... >To: Dev...@li... >Subject: [Dev-C++] Giving up >Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 12:05:14 EST > >I give up on DEV-C++ I understand that it's a front end IDE for the gnu >compiler that comes in two compilers cygwin, and mingw. > >My reason for giving up is whatever compiler I use it won't accept ANSI >standard code and gives me false linker messages. > >One good thing I found out is that Bloodshed Software also distributes a >Pascal IDE called DEV-PAS which is much more user friendly. I give up on DEV-C++ I understand that it's a front end IDE for the gnu compiler that comes in two compilers cygwin, and mingw.

Hi,
is there any way to detect whether a PC is connected with a LAN. Recently
the function:
bool __stdcall FileExist(char* s)
{
struct _finddata_t f;
long hFile;
hFile = _findfirst(s, &f);
_findclose(hFile);
return (hFile == -1 ? 0 : -1);
} // FileExist
does it. But now, it does not.
Thanks for every tip
greetings Horst

can someone explain to me how to use color text just for simple messages? I've tried some of the tutorials online but they don't compile on Dev. I'm not worried about how to make background colors, just the text messages themselves. Any help would be appreciated. Hi all. My question is: When you program with Glade and gtk+ you can drag and drop textfields etc. Is there anyway to do that in devc++? I've downloaded and installed the gtk+ package and runtime lib. Best regards Claus |
