Anyone know how to get the following assembly code to work in Dev-C++? I'm using it in a C program.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
void outportb(UINT portid, BYTE value)
{
__asm mov edx,portid
__asm mov al,value
__asm out dx,al
}
BYTE inportb(UINT portid)
{
unsigned char value;
__asm mov edx,portid
__asm in al,dx
__asm mov value,al
return value;
}

Can anyone point me to an example of an open source screen saver that uses pictures? The book I have goes over screen savers, screen saver controls, adding the control changes to the registry, and has nothing, and I mean nothing, about using graphics in the screen saver. Every screen saver I've ever seen was totally about graphics (except one:), and I would like some practice with that aspect as well. I'd also like to see some different methods of changing the picture in the window (desktop in this case). Fade out, center split, wipe from right/left/bottom/top, are some common methods. Nothing to elaborate though. ms |

Hi Tuukka, Thanks for the suggestions. I've already been very careful to look at = those possibilities, but there is no actual processing of any kind going on, = while this window is displayed - all that is happening is a message pump. -Ed -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Subject: [Dev-C++] Re: Weird dialog corruption? > I've never run into this before, and I don't know what's causing it. Are you sore that working thread don't have memory leak problem ? This chould be happend if pointer is incorrect and write data over own=20 reserved memory. Becose application write own memory area windows think=20 that there isin't are enything wrong and don't kill application. The second idea is infinite loop that stop message processing. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The SF.net Donation Program. It gets checked. The "this" pointer passed to const member functions is
const as well, so any attempt to modify member variables (or call non-const
member functions) will result in errors.

you have a class
class List {
public:
bool isEmpty();
};
If you rewrite it to:
class List {
public:
bool isEmpty() const;
};
you tell the compiler that isEmpty() will not perform any changes of the
List object. This informs the compiler to allow isEmpty() calls for a
const list object such as:
void my_function(const List& list) {
if (!list.isEmpty()) {
....
}
}

As far as I know, you can use Windows headers, that on TCP are very
similar to Linux ones. Well, not by header names, but you'll find a
socket, listen, accept, setsockopt, etc. functions with same arguments,
and so on: you'll only need to use send intead of write and recv intead of
read to do I/O on socket. This is the way Microsoft wished to be posix 1.0
compliant.
To do this you need to link a lib (winsock, or something similar, which
you should initialize before any network call with WSASturtup) and a
network header, but I don't remember its name. If you give a look on MSDN
on line. i.e. searching for socket: data over there are VisualC-oriented,
but Dev C++'s behaviour is identical.
I hope that's helpful to you.

Hello Alain, on default the DevC++ IDE uses the Mingw system that comes with the GNU compiler and some of the GNU tools. But as far as I know it is not Linux compliant. If you want to use your Linux code to compile on Windwos maschines or port some programs you should try Cygwin ( www.cygwin.com ) that comes with all the stuff (headers libs) you have on Linux. I took a short look and found the socket.h in the /inc/sys directory of my cygwin installation. Hope this helps, Frank >>> "Alain Paschoud" <ala...@ge...> 10/28 4:30 >>> Hi all, I'm new to dev-cpp, and I need to accept a TCP connection. Question: Help using ' istream& getline (istream& is, string& str, char
delim = '\n'); '
First of all, I apologize I am addressing this question to the wrong
mail_list/news_group. If so, please just disregard this message.
Here is my problem:
The below overloaded extractor is not the only one in my class. There is
an overloaded extractor for all the primitive data types as well as for
std::string objects.
All of inserters and extractors handling primitive data types are
identical, the only difference is that each handles different data
types. However, the overloaded operator handling std::string objects is
giving me some strange behavior.
Staring with the data in the file stream and continuing with a sip of
the source code, let me show you what it is that I am talking about.
-- data in the file stream is: --
Where are the weapons of mass destruction? Sir.^
-- snip --
virtual std::string& operator>>(std::string& data)
throw(jme::CursorPosition, jme::StreamEx, std::bad_alloc){
/** Set the position of the file get pointer, if there are any
errors throw an exception explaining what when wrong **/
try{setNextRead();}
catch(jme::CursorPositionEx& x){throw; }
catch(jme::StreamEx& x) {throw; }
/** Make sure that there is data to be read in the file**/
if(file_is_empty()){ throw io_baseEx(FE_EMPTY,FILE,METHOD,LINE);}
/** set the file's cursor position the the value returned by

f.seekg( getNextRead());
/** Get the a string from of character from the file stream until "^"

std::getline(f,data,'^')
//Testing
std::cout << "Data is: " << data << std::endl; <<== Displays the right
string value
std::cout << "Current Cursor Pos " << f.tellg() << std::endl; //<==
Returns -1; an error??
std::cin.get();
//End testing
try{setNextRead();}
catch(jme::CursorPosition& x){ throw; }
catch(jme::StreamEx& x){throw; } <== because ftellg is -1 this
exception is thrown
f.sync();
return data;
}
Again, thanks folks for the help!

Hi all,
I'm new to dev-cpp, and I need to accept a TCP connection. As I did under
Linux, I will use the bind and accepts functions. But to do that, I need to
include the <sys/socket.h> header file. I did it (see below), but there is
no socket.h file in the include directory of dev-cpp (result : accept_con.c
sys\socket.h: No such file or directory). Here are my questions :
Is there every required headers with Dev-cpp to do network programming ?
Is there every necessary libraries ?
Do I have to download something more to use sockets ?
Best regards, and thank you for any help.

If you change anything in a header file then the recompile will not detect any changes, so you have to do a build all. This SDK is designed for building games. It supports VC++, mingw and borland in win32. On 28 Oct 2003 at 8:58, Daniel Glenfield wrote: > I've not been to the site (lazy me) but what is the SDK for? Hi, I don't speak Japanese that well, but I'm trying to learn it myself too. It's pretty easy in fact. Intonation doesn't have much to do with what the words mean (that's in Chinese :P), it's more which sounds you use. You use "ka" at the end of a sentence to make it a question, for example. You could try having a look at the Pimsleur "Japanese 1" tapes/CDs/mp3s, they're a great help to me as well. It does focus on speaking instead of writing, but that should be ok (considering the extreme amount of characters they have :|). If you want to learn the character sets, you're probably best off first learning hiragana and katakana, both consisting of 46 characters. Hiragana is the set of basic sounds (don't know a better word for it, English isn't my native language either :P), with which you can compose a lot of words (apparently that's what kids in Japan learn first as well). Katakana is a set of characters used for "loan words"... when they use, for example, English words, they write them with this character set (which often produces funny sounding words as well). These are the character sets (off some anime site I believe, hence the girls next to the characters): http://mystgamedev.xs4all.nl/hiragana.jpg and http://mystgamedev.xs4all.nl/katakana.jpg . And anyone who knows I'm wrong or anything, please correct me :) I mostly learn from what others tell me (a lot of my friends are big anime fans, and one of them's even studying Japanese at a university, so I pick some things up every now and then). Hi, And there is an easier way to create DevPaks: just download the utility PackMaker we developed, to create in a few minutes a fully working .DevPak :) You can get it through WebUpdate in Dev-C++. The library builds OK, but when I've tried to build suplied examples most of them didn't build (lots of errors). so I deleted it whole :-). |

OK, that's a little bit harder, but not so much:
=============================================
==== Setting up Dev-C++ to build Allegro ====
=============================================
1) Make sure you have working Dev-C++ installation. (You can do this
by installing the latest Dev-C++ 5.0 beta with Mingw/GCC 3.2 from
http://bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html ).
2) Run Dev-C++, go to Tools\Check for Updates/Packages... and
install DirectX package (if you haven't done this already).
Close the Dev-C++.
2) Open command line window in the directory where you have unpacked
Allegro. Run these commands:
c:\allegro> path c:\Dev-Cpp\bin;%PATH%
c:\allegro> set MINGDIR=c:\Dev-Cpp
c:\allegro> fix mingw32
c:\allegro> make
c:\allegro> make install
where c:\Dev-Cpp is path to your Dev-C++ instalation (so adjust
these commands appropriately)
3) that's all
==============================================
actually the current build docs are a little bit overcomplicated, the new release will have something like these (already fixed in CVS)
