Hello all.
Suppose you are asked to suggest 5 somewhat small
books that will significantly improve C++/software
engineeering literacy in a company whose main product
is a 500,000 line software written in (you guessed
it!) C++. Most of the employees are
otherwise-intelligent Electrical Engg. graduates who,
unfortunately, write HORRENDOUS code ("it doesn't
matter what the variable is named as long as it is
named something", "don't worry about where I place my
function, just use it", dynamically allocated objects
where automatic variables would *perfectly* suffice,
massively redundant coding, zero documentation...).
What would your suggestions be?
VM.

Hi Andreas, WtsApi32.lib and WtsApi32.h files you can find in Microsoft Platform SDK. You can download Platform SDK for free from www.microsoft.com (~384 MB). Location is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=EBA0128F-A770-45F1-86F3-7AB010B398A3&displaylang=en If you don't like to download Platform SDK I can send to you only this two files (~30 KB) Good luck, Blagoja |

Hello, I use dev-cpp together with QT 4.01. I created a templated file like explained in http://translate.google.com/translate?u=https%3A%2F%2F2.zoppoz.workers.dev%3A443%2Fhttp%2Fnicolasj.developpez.com%2Farticles%2Fqt4%2F&langpair=fr%7Cde&hl=de&ie=UTF8 For qt projects a custom makefile must e used. I tried to put this lines to the [ Project ] section of my template file UseCustomMakefile=1 CustomMakefile=Makefile.Release but this does not work. Dev-cpp ignores this parameters. Is this the wrong section or is it necessary to set the full path to the makefile ? How can i set in the template that the exe is build in the "release" sub-directory of the project Bye Andreas |

Indeed i had "libodbc" and similar, just not "libobjc" But i put the file where Alfred said, and linked it as Hind said, and it's now working great.... When i reinstall, i will see if i'm missing the file next time... So thanks again guys... Hind, and Alfred, and Eric, much appreciated. Cheers, Scott. |

Hi Alfred, Hmm i can't seem to find it at all, in my DevC++ install. I did a search i found 12 files with a "libo*.* prefix But alas, did not find any matching or looking like libobjc. in any directories, anywhere (strange) Anything else i can do? Can someone send me this file? I will look at doing a Reinstall after that... Thanks again... Cheers, Scott. Hi Scott, Try doing a Windows Explorer Search from F:\Programming\Dev-Cpp\ for libobjc*.*. It should reside in the lib folder of dev-cpp or in a path declared in the libraries directory of the project options. dev-cpp only searches default paths and paths defined by the user. You may find that it's not in the expected path. That assumes that the argument to the linker options is -lobjc, BTW. |

It starts with an identifier. A in this case is a name - somewhere else that name 'A' is probably mapped to a number. It is possible to have resources with text names but it is _very_ seldom used because of all problems with tools etc... MOVEABLE means that on older platforms (Win16) the memory allocated for the icon may move around in the computer if Win3.1 needs to compact available memory. LOADONCALL means that all info in the resource file must not be loaded at the same time. It is enough for the OS to load the icon from the exe file when it is needed. DISCARDABLE means that if the computer have little memory, the memory allocated for the icon may be reclaimed. You may either run the application without an icon if out of resources, or it may be loaded again later. /Per W On Wed, 12 Oct 2005, Blagoja Gjakovski wrote: > Hind Fadel wrote: > > In the ressource file : > > 100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico" > > > > And be sure that the icon file is in the same directory than the source > > file or change the path, for example "res//test.ico" if the icon is in > > the res directory. > > > > In the header file or the source file: > > #define ID_ICON 100 > > > > And in the source file : > > wincl.hIcon = LoadIcon (hThisInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(ID_ICON)); > > > > If you need more information about the syntax or the use of the win32 > > functions, use the win32 help, try for example this link to download it : > > dimcom.uqac.ca/~ecoete/ftp/mmedia/MSHelp/WIN32.HLP > > > > Good Luck > > It work, thanks for help. > > I have another question...can you explain syntax of line in > test_private.rc file? > A ICON MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL DISCARDABLE "test.ico" > > Why it start with character "A" and in your example is number "100" ? > 100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico" > > What is meaning of "MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL" ? > > Thanks again, > > Blagoja > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: > Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, > and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl > _______________________________________________ > Dev-cpp-users mailing list > Dev...@li... > TO UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www23.brinkster.com/noicys/devcpp/ub.htm > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users > |

Any ressource used in a program need to be identified, so useally we use numbers to be sure that every ressource has a single identifier. I never used letters but its have the same role. Concerning the "MOVEABLE LOADONCALL", this attributes are ignored because they concern 16-bit Windows, for the meaning here u are, but as I told u, you can find this information in the win32 help (I just copy/paste them) LOADONCALL : the resource is loaded when called MOVEABLE : the resource can be moved if necessary in order to compact memory. Concerning the "PURE", I must confess that I don't know, I never use it and search to understand it but this attribute is ignored too :) Have good time :) >Date: Wed, 12 Oct 2005 18:44:55 +0200 > >Hind Fadel wrote: >>In the ressource file : >> 100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico" >> >>And be sure that the icon file is in the same directory than the source >>file or change the path, for example "res//test.ico" if the icon is in the >>res directory. >> >>In the header file or the source file: >> #define ID_ICON 100 >> >>And in the source file : >> wincl.hIcon = LoadIcon (hThisInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(ID_ICON)); >> >>If you need more information about the syntax or the use of the win32 >>functions, use the win32 help, try for example this link to download it : >>dimcom.uqac.ca/~ecoete/ftp/mmedia/MSHelp/WIN32.HLP >> >>Good Luck > >It work, thanks for help. > >I have another question...can you explain syntax of line in test_private.rc >file? >A ICON MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL DISCARDABLE "test.ico" > >Why it start with character "A" and in your example is number "100" ? >100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico" > >What is meaning of "MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL" ? > >Thanks again, > >Blagoja > > _________________________________________________________________ MSN Hotmail : antivirus et antispam intégrés http://www.msn.fr/newhotmail/Default.asp?Ath=f |

I have another question...can you explain syntax of line in test_private.rc file? A ICON MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL DISCARDABLE "test.ico" Why it start with character "A" and in your example is number "100" ? 100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico" What is meaning of "MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL" ? Thanks again, Blagoja |
|
From: Hind F. <the...@ho...> - 2005-10-12 15:54:29

In the ressource file :
100 ICON DISCARDABLE "test.ico"
And be sure that the icon file is in the same directory than the source file
or change the path, for example "res//test.ico" if the icon is in the res
directory.
In the header file or the source file:
#define ID_ICON 100
And in the source file :
wincl.hIcon = LoadIcon (hThisInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(ID_ICON));
If you need more information about the syntax or the use of the win32
functions, use the win32 help, try for example this link to download it :
dimcom.uqac.ca/~ecoete/ftp/mmedia/MSHelp/WIN32.HLP
Good Luck

Hi,
I write simple aplication from templates and I want to insert icon
(my.ico) into exe file like resource, and after that when I compile and
run application see that icon in the list when click Alt+Tab and in the
left side in the app titlebar.
In test_private.rc file is only this line:
A ICON MOVEABLE PURE LOADONCALL DISCARDABLE "test.ico"
Can somebody explain me syntax of this line or tell me URL on the net
where can I find explanation of .rc file format, please?
When I compile app only see test.exe with icon (test.ico) in the Windows
Explorer and when I start exe default Windows icon IDI_APPLICATION is in
Alt+Tab list.
I know that I must change this lines in the main.c file:
wincl.hIcon = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION);
wincl.hIconSm = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION);
but I don't know how to use LoadIcon function. MSDN for LoadIcon have
little info and don't help me.
Can somebody write simple example for line in .rc file (how to insert
"my.ico" to exe) and example line in main.c file (wincl.hIcon =
LoadIcon(???, ???);) please?
Thanks,
Blagoja

Did you add the library in the linker (see project options)?
Do it and u will fix the problem.

Hi,
I'm getting 18 errors like the following with DevC++
I use DevC/C++ without problem usually, but i get
these errors, as part of a 3D SDK....
Is it a Opensource OGL library issue, can it be fixed?
[Linker error] undefined reference to `glClearColor@16' [Linker
error] undefined reference to `glClear@4' [Linker error] undefined
reference to `glColor3f@12'
Cheers,
Scott.

Hi, a have problems building log4cxx. I'm using Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2, apache ant 1.6.5 I think with the STL is something wrong for Windows, nevertheless I detected redefinitions in a ant-generated header private.h that leed to compiler warnings only for gcc. Can anybody help with log4cxx or suggest another logging framework? Thanks, Wolf Peuker |

In Linux the link is ok, but in Dev-C++ (Windows) I have the error: cp.cpp: variable 'vtable for Gtk::TreeViewColumn' can't be auto-imported. Please read the documentation for ld's --enable-auto-import for details. This error ocorr to with the example of Gtkmm Tutorial book: http://www.gtkmm.org/docs/gtkmm-2.4/examples/book/treeview/list/ I'm using Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2_setup.exe, gtkmm-devel-2.6.2-1.exe, gtk-win32-devel-2.6.8-rc1.exe. I configured the Project Options for Compiler and Linker using pkg-config --cflags gtkmm-2.4, and --libs gtkmm-2.4. I dont know where is the documentation indicated in the message error. thank's (o_o) - mds _______________________________________________________ Promoção Yahoo! Hi Hind,
I'm working on an imaging application that uses structure arrays of sizes of 22K elements to well over 4M depending on image size. My problem usually occurs when mapping an array of floating point elements to array indicies.
Usually, for algorithmic reasons, an array element is in the form vect[i]={x,y,z}, double precision. However for screen plotting I need an array in the form vect[x][y] = z. It is in this conversion that most of my access violations or segment errors occur.
If I have an array of 3-vectors (x,y,z) and then preform a 3d transform (i.e. rotation on multiple axes), occasionally the resultant x and y coordinates will exceed the declared array size. My correction to this is to scan the resultant array of 3-vectors for maximum transformed x and y values, then generate a new array that has those maximum sizes. A further benefit is that it condenses a 3-vector array element of 24 bytes (3 doubles) to an x and y indexed array element of 8 bytes (1 double). Then I can delete[] the original 3-vector array.

for the same problem if i use arrays with [20][20] there's no problem but if
i use [40][40] i had the exception!!

Bad programming - most probably either references to a NULL pointer, access to an uninitialized pointer or access outside the bounds of an array. In this case I think you are sending bad parameters to a Win32 API. /Per W On Thu, 6 Oct 2005, Hind Fadel wrote: > Hi everybody > > I'm developping a big code, sometimes it works but sometimes I had this > error : " Unhandled exception (NTDLL) : 0xC0000005 : Access Violation". > > Does anybody knows wath's the matter???!! > > _________________________________________________________________ > MSN Hotmail : antivirus et antispam int=E9gr=E9s > http://www.msn.fr/newhotmail/Default.asp?Ath=3Df > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: > Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, > and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl > _______________________________________________ > Dev-cpp-users mailing list > Dev...@li... > TO UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www23.brinkster.com/noicys/devcpp/ub.htm > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dev-cpp-users > |
