Yes, I already tried \, \", ", \\", \', ', \\' <file://\\'>, the command line always ignore the " or '.... When using QT (http://www.trolltech.com/products/qt/index.html), you describe your project in a .pro file, and with qmake command it creates a Makefile for your project. If I put the DEFINE in the .pro file, it works OK with "". But I only need this DEFINE in the release build (and the value of the define is dynamic, it is the date of the release build), so I'm tring to insert the DEFINE in the qmake command line (in the release build script), but I still can't make the define value be a string... So I try to make a code to receive the DEFINE value and make a string from it, but it seens to be impossible in C/C++ :( I need to think in another option... For now in the release build, I append the DEFINE to the .pro file, and after the build, I remove the define... (not a good practice...) PS: I post a message in Qt mailling list about it but no one answer until now :( On 12/16/05, mi...@ne... <mi...@ne...> wrote: > > Hmm. It is quite alright sending it to my personal email. Infact, if you =
would wish to converse through that means, I have no problems with it.
I assume, now, that you're passing the -D option to the compiler to =
assign defines.
If that is the case, Here is a test program I just wrote to make it =
work.
---code--
#include <stdio.h>
int main ()
{
printf("%s\n\r", RELEASE);
return 0;
}
--code--
And I compiled it this way (used my linux machine and GCC, but dev-cpp =
uses mingw, so you can set the compile options)
gcc def.c -DRELEASE=3D\"2.2\" -o def -ggdb
Notice the use of quotes? Try it.=20
Output:
./def
2.2
Hope this helps,
Mike.

Hi Mike,
This would work if the #define was in the code.
But my problem is that the the #define came from a command line, and i =
CANT put the "" on it.
(As I said before, I cannot change the value format)
I need something in the code the gets the #define value that is not a =
string and make a string from it.
I tried de # opertator
#define to_string( x ) # x
const char* VERSION =3D to_string( RELEASE_DATE );
but I get "RELEASE_DATE" and not "2005_11_11_-_11:11:11"
PS: sorry for sending this to your personal email... (new mail =
program.....)

How about trying
#define RELEASE_DATE "2005_11_11_-_11:11:11"
That makes the defined as a string.

Hello,
I'm new to programming and have a problem with a directx example program I've been trying to complete. The source is from Beginning Game programming by Jonathan Harbour.
I tried sending the source, but I zipped it and it got blocked. I'm not sure what extensions are okay and so if you need source files please let me know and I'll send it.
Basically when it compiles fine, but when I run the program it just goes to the desktop without warning. I've put in some error checking code, but I can't figure out what's wrong.
d3ddev is a LPDIRECT3DDEVICE9
sprite_handler is a LPD3DXSPRITE
kitty is a SPRITE which is an user defined type
kitty_image is an array of LPDIRECT3DTEXTURE9
result is a HRESULT
Below is a snippet of where I think the problem is.
//start rendering
if (d3ddev->BeginScene())
{
//erase the entire background
d3ddev->StretchRect(back, NULL, backbuffer, NULL, D3DTEXF_NONE);
//start sprite handler
result = sprite_handler->Begin(D3DXSPRITE_ALPHABLEND);
if(result != S_OK)
MessageBox(hwnd, "sprite_handler begin error", "Error", MB_OK);
//Create vector to update sprite position
D3DXVECTOR3 position((float)kitty.x, (float)kitty.y, 0);
// Draw the sprite
sprite_handler->Draw(
kitty_image[kitty.curframe],
NULL,
NULL,
&position,
D3DCOLOR_XRGB(255,255,255));
//stop drawing
result = sprite_handler->End();
if(result != S_OK)
MessageBox(hwnd, "sprite_handler end error", "Error", MB_OK);
//stop rendering
d3ddev->EndScene();
}
//display the back buffer on the screen
d3ddev->Present(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL);
Any help is appreciated and if I forgot to add anything just ask for it...
Thanks,
John

Hi I Have a function with Variable Argument List, that work fine: void showMessage(int level, const char * message, ...); But now I want to make a similiar function void showMessage(const char * message, ...); that calls the first one, passing a default level argment, but I don't find a way to pass the Variable Argument List ( the ... ) from the new foo funtion to the old one... Is there a way to do this? []s Freddy |

I'm confused about how to use the extra bytes of an HWND. I want to store a struct of my type FileProperties. When filling the WNDCLASSEX structure, I specifed that the cbWndExtra member should be equal to sizeof(FileProperties). But how do actually store the struct in the extra bytes when i create the window. My program always crashes when i try. _________________________________________________________________ Designer Mail isn't just fun to send, it's fun to receive. I'm obviously not getting something about DevC++ here... oh well...=20 WAIT!!! duh! I keep pressing "compile project!" I'm soooooooooooooo stupid sometimes... he he - I knew that (not!) Actually, I use keyboard shortcuts, so no wonder I flash over to whatever key is compile project (it's been a while - I've been using KDevelop in Linux for a while now since I haven't booted Windows on my laptop in about a week - it's so nice not worrying when the next fatal system error is!) |

>u need to use a project - I've never gotten single-file things to work. Really? one of the advantages i noticed with DevC+ over codeblocks is i can just go new source file, paste or write some quick the code and compile no problems. It's really handy for testing those simple things. Cheers, Scott. Same here! Use it all the time.
