Along with the correction suggested and reason for wrong answer you think you
got don't forget to use this before return.
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
Verne
Hello, I am new to programming and to c++ and Dev-CPP. I have been
experimenting with numbers and can't figure this one out. Here is the
code the I am using:
#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int main ()
{
int a;
float b;
double c;
long double d;
cout << " Enter a number: ";
cin >> d;
c=d;
b=d;
a=d;
cout << d << endl << c << endl << b << endl << a << endl;
return 0;
}
Here is the result with the number 123456789.123456789:
1.23457e+008
1.23457e+008
1.23457e+008
123456789
Now from what I have read, a long double should be good up to 19
digits, a long up to 15, and a float up to 7. Why does the long double
return 1.23457e+008, instead of the entered value of
123456789.123456789, which is only 18 digits long?

That output is right. Standard setting for floating point values bigger
than 10^6 is scientific notation with first 6 digits. Try tampering with
output formating mathods of std::ostream.

Sorry, you have to generate your permutation yourself. Depending on how you generate your permutations, you can calculate where a specific permutation should be stored in the array. There will be a total of 8! or 40320 permutations. Depending on algorithm implementation, the permutations may also be stored as a large bit array, where non-eliminated permutations are located by scanning the bit array 32-bit at a time. /Per W On Fri, 12 Aug 2005, Pablo Itaim A. wrote: > Hi, i'm trying to implemet a hill climbing algorithm with a greedy initial heuristic for the n queen problem. > For the greedy, i wanto to have an array with all the permuted columns. > is there any c command for genering permuted arrays? > how can i eliminate a value from that array without searching the complete array? > > Thank you for the help and i hope that you can undertand my english ;-) > > Pablo |

Simply use cin.get();
return 0;
// This works nicely in all three of the programs I use though sometimes the
'system("PAUSE"); will work as well in Borland, Dev C++ or Ms V c++.

what if you said cin.ignore (0, '\n'); ???
Does anyone know if that'd work? Or maybe putting in a negative
number or something... I dunno. There should just be a way to do
this, but you might have to get sneaky and be weird like this:
while (true) {
if (getc() != '\n')
break;
}
or something to that effect.
NOTE: dangit. forgot to change the to: area to dev-cpp-users.

I know that Shachar already answered, but I thought that it was a bit
confusing; so I'll try too.
Considering that T is a type, you can write:
T obj;
T * pobj;
Where "obj" is a variable of type "T", and "pobj" is a pointer to a
variable of type T.
Now, replace "T" with a type like "int" and you have:
int obj;
int * obj;
But "int *" is also a type; you could write:
typedef int * pint; /* now "pint" is a synonym for "int *" */
pint obj;
pint * pobj;
The typedef "pint" is just a convenience here; if you remove it, you can
write the equivalent code:
int * obj;
int * * pobj;
So, "obj" is a pointer to "int", and "pobj" is a pointer to pointer to
"int".
Now if you want to declare the "int" value as constant, you can:
const int * * pobj;
or
int const * * pobj;
Now you can't change the end of the two pointers (the "int" value).
int * a;
pobj = &a; /* ok, assigning the address of variable "a" */
*pobj = a; /* ok, assigning the address stored in "a" */
**pobj = *a; /* error, assignment of read-only location */
You can also declare the variable itself ("pobj") as const, so its value
can't be changed.
int * a;
int * * const pobj;
pobj = &a; /* error, assignment of read-only location */
*pobj = a; /* ok, assigning the address stored in "a" */
**pobj = *a; /* ok, assigning the integer pointed by "a" */
And finally, you can add a const so the value pointed by "pobj" (a
pointer) can't be changed.
int * a;
int * const * pobj;
pobj = &a; /* ok, assigning the address of variable "a" */
*pobj = a; /* error, assignment of read-only location */
**pobj = *a; /* ok, assigning the integer pointed by "a" */

You have a 2 level pointer, out of which the second one is constant. I
will try to illustrate this:
Lets assume ptr =3D=3D 0x1000
Additionally, in address 0x1000 you have the value 0x2000
And finally, in address 0x2000 you have the value 0x3000
So, writing **ptr will get you the integer value at address 0x2000
(meaning if you will do printf("0x%X",**ptr); you will get 0x3000) ,
and will allow you to change it (meaning that you will be able to
assign a different value there), and writing *ptr will get you the
address 0x2000 (meaning that if you will do printf("%p",*ptr); you
will get 0x2000), which you won't be able to change. Finally, you will
be able to change address ptr itself is pointing to, which currently
is 0x1000.
Regards,
Shachar

Hi, I have a problem with variable declaration. Please tell me what the following declaration means? int * const * ptr; I know that "ptr" is a pointer to "int * const". But what "int * const" =20 means. Thanks, --=20 Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ |

fflush(stdin) isn't portable either, so that should probably be replaced
with cin.ignore(8) or something. (with the argument being greater if you
anticipate more than 8 chars of garbage in the stdin queue).

Hi Steve,
I'm using your suggestion, but it has no effect.
I still get an error from CoCreateInstance: 0x800401F0
It is CO_E_NOTINITIALIZED
'Failed to connect to server'
Surfing the internet results in hints that it may have something to do with
'MsiInstaller', 'Events'.
'Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2)', 'CoInitialize has not been
called'.
I tried using OleInitialize(..) or CoInitializeEx(..) but these crash!
I've now found the solution!
I use CoInitialize(NULL) in stead of CoInitializeEx(..)
Thanks for your help by the way :)
greetings,
Mark Ament

Hi Mark,
I'm using COM without any problems.
I'm using the libraries that came with Dev-Cpp - Try using
Dev-Cpp\lib\libole32.a. This should work fine.

yes that is a good point. You really should use ignore() or something like that as opposed to system() commands because they are deathly non-portable. Making them portable is really a pain too. However, system() commands are necessary in certain situations so don't shelf the idea entirely. |

Note that Libs=3D is empty and that the linking is done using the full library name (excluding path). The first approach to adding a library via the IDE is to use the "Add Library or Object" dialog. Using a standard library produces the following entries in the .dev file:- [Project] Libs= Linker=../../../../../Dev-Cpp/lib/libole32.a_@@_../../../../../Dev-Cpp/lib/liboleaut32.a_@@_ This compiles fine. However the entries use a relative path from the project directory to the library directory. In other words moving the project directory will break the build. This is not good. By editing the entries in the "Linker" box of the IDE we can ad the full path in. This improves the situation. The .dev file now looks like this [Project] Libs= Linker=C:\Dev-Cpp\lib\libole32.a_@@_C:\Dev-Cpp\lib\liboleaut32.a_@@_ This also compiles fine. However the dev file now contains full addresses for all libraries. Again this is a portability issue. This may also cause problems with large projects due to shell limitations on the command line length. The correct solution is to only add the library name. This produces the following entry in the .dev file [Project] Libs= Linker=libole32.a_@@_liboleaut32.a _@@_ This is now portable. However is does not compile. The compile log is as follows: Compiler: Default compiler Building Makefile: "C:\Documents and Settings\Steve Higham\My Documents\Dev\ConsoleTest\Makefile.win" Executing make clean rm -f main.o ConsoleTest.exe g++.exe -D__DEBUG__ -c main.cpp -o main.o -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.2/include" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/backward" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/mingw32" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include" -g3 g++.exe -D__DEBUG__ main.o -o "ConsoleTest.exe" -L"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib" libole32.a liboleaut32.a -g3 g++.exe: libole32.a: No such file or directory g++.exe: liboleaut32.a: No such file or directory make.exe: *** [ConsoleTest.exe] Error 1 Execution terminated I don't understand why this fails. The -L switch identifies the correct directory (C:/Dev-Cpp/lib) and the lib names are correct. This is the issue. It's probably not the most important issue in the world. But it would be nice to resolve it. Kind Regards, Steve -- Steve Higham › st...@sj... <mailto:st...@sj...> |
