Ok lets try this again. I have an object of type ofstream (or any type of output stream, including stringstream). How do I get a copy of everything that is sent to cout (or anyother output stream) also sent to this stream? Essentially I am looking for a more "graceful" way to do this (assume outfile has been declared and opened): cout << "Some text" << ..... ; outfile << "Some text" << ..... ; This works but as just about anyone can guess it can get quite irritating for really long output lines. Essentially I am trying to replace a printf-like function I am using to do my error logging. The rdbuf stuff will not work, even if I used correct syntax. outfile.rdbuf(cin.rdbuf()) This will have both using the same underlying buffer but when one sync's with the data the other stream will not be able to read the data. To make matters worse such code is not quite thread safe. Does any one know how to this? ... Better question, is this even possible? IBM owns a bunch of them that they are not enforcing. Presumably because=20 they feel at this time that their business is computers and enforcing=20 software patents like "downloading compressed data" would ruin their=20 computer business. But who knows when they might decide the software business has more money=20 making potential. St Joe for instance was a paper company, until they got a new CEO who=20 decided they could make more money developing the property they were=20 growing trees on. Now we have an environmental nightmare where there were=20 forests. Nothing says you can't change the business you're in. Microsoft presumably has the same conflict. They need for computers to sell= =20 for them to sell OS's. If they dry up the consumer computer business by=20 enforcing software patents, they mess that up -- but how many software=20 patents do they own that they might make money off of from businesses who=20 are forced to use computers -- and pay and pay and pay... So, maybe we=20 better not be to quick to hope free OS's take over the market. If they do,= =20 it certainly tips M$'s hand in the direction of software patents for money= =20 making. Don't worry.These patents will all run out in 40 or 80 years and then we=20 can have a computer again :) ms At 11:49 AM 10/1/03, you wrote: >age...@co... wrote: >>That is the stupidest law I have ever heard of. To me, it seems that here, the compiler assumes that you've used
a function named delete(), and not the operator ::delete().
Have you tried "delete (*xIter);"? (I mean letting at least one
space between "delete" and "(*xIter)".) It seems that this should
solve the problem.
Wishes,

I am trying to setup a Push Button control that when pushed, runs a series
of commands, then calls itself to be run again. The reason behind this is
that there is another thread that needs to process some data prior to the
second half of the function being run. To do this I thought I could simply
send a message to my main window (put the message into the que) so that once
the other threads message has completed the button will be recalled.
However this does not seem to happen, it simply ignores my sendmesage (or so
it seems)
Code:
case 508:
switch(setup)
{
case 0:
FindSearch=FindInBuffer("]#",2);
if(FindSearch==1)
{
MessageBox(NULL,"Prompt
Check","Error",MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION);
}
setup=1;
break;
case 1:
FindInBuffer("]#",1);
Command(" ",hwnd);
SendMessage(hwnd,WM_COMMAND,(WPARAM)NULL,(LPARAM)508);
break;
}
break;
End Code:
Does anyone know how to handle a situation like this?

Dear sir,
I tried the discussion list with no success. So, excuse me for coming to you. I
do not know if I have a program error or a compiler error. Anyway, I can see no
error on my source code so, please, have a look on it. The source code
presented is the smallest code that I could write in order to show the problem.
The program records 4 times the sequence 9 a b c d, then close the file, open
again and reads its contents which should be 4 times the sequence 9 a b c d.
But it does not happen - it seems that the program reads nothing.
Then, the program records 4 times the sequence 1 2 3 4 5, then close the file,
open again and reads its contents which should be 4 times the sequence 1 2 3 4
5. Perfect, the program reads the file contents as expected.
I could realize that, considering the sequence 0 to ff, the program does not
read the bytes 9 a b c d 20. There is no problem with the other bytes. I do not
understand why.
It follows bellow the source code to make tests. The part bellow the
line //////////////////////////// is identical to the part above this line with
only one difference to define the start number (1 or 9). The line is:
ch = 9 + (i%5); // generates 01 byte (9 to d)
above this line
ch = 1 + (i%5); // generates 01 byte (1 to 5)
bellow this line
Thank you for your help
Source code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
main()
{
unsigned char ch;
cout << endl;
// open file for output
ofstream arquivo("binary", ios::out|ios::binary);
// copy bytes to output file
for (int i=0; i<20; i++) {
ch = 9 + (i%5); // generates 01 byte (9 to d)
arquivo << ch; // writes 01 byte to out file
cout.width(3); // shows the recorded byte
cout << hex << int(ch);
}
arquivo.close(); //finished, close the file.
cout << endl;
ch=0; ////// Wrong, it shows this number as result of cout bellow. Why?
// open file for input
ifstream arquivo0("binary", ios::in|ios::binary);
// read bytes from output file
for (int i=0; i<20; i++)
{
arquivo0 >> ch; // reads 01 byte from out file
cout.width(3); // shows the read byte
cout << hex << int(ch); // it seems that it did not read the byte from
file!!!
}
arquivo0.close(); //finished, close the file.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
cout << endl;
// open file for output
ofstream arquivo1("binary", ios::out|ios::binary);
// copy bytes to output file
for (int i=0; i<20; i++) {
ch = 1 + (i%5); // generates 01 byte (1 to 5)
arquivo1 << ch; // writes 01 byte to out file
cout.width(3); // shows the recorded byte
cout << hex << int(ch);
}
arquivo1.close(); //finished, close the file.
cout << endl;
ch=0; ////// As expected, it does not shows this number as result of cout
bellow
// open file for input
ifstream arquivo2("binary", ios::in|ios::binary);
// read bytes from output file
for (int i=0; i<20; i++)
{
arquivo2 >> ch; // reads 01 byte from out file
cout.width(3); // shows the read byte
cout << hex << int(ch);
}
arquivo2.close(); //finished, close the file.
}

I thought this was relevant to everyone who writes a line of code. Forget=20 about marketing. Marketing isn't required, just distributing, for instance,= =20 sending a line of code to a list to ask a question. Possibly? YOU! could=20 easily be breaking the law if this passes. In fact, I believe it will be=20 almost impossible for you not to break the law. And you certainly won't be= =20 able to do anything useful with a computer and not break the law. Unless of= =20 course you pay and pay and pay and pay and then pay some more. And guess=20 who is shoving truck loads (literally) of money at the so called=20 "representatives of the people" who are deciding this issue. Certainly not= =20 those who don't want to pay. I really hope it results in so many of the slimeballs of the world suing=20 each other for so long for so much money that they all end up broke and=20 paralyzed from their efforts, but I'm a dreamer :) The announcement of the finishing of the shareware program was spam.
