Greets. Andre. > [message] Check if the header file is okay, try re-installing the compiler or Dev-C++ so into a fresh directory or after uninstalling, so that the header is replaced. It seems to me that the error is there, probably an unterminated brace or string or comment or something. ___________________________________________________________ Abhijit Shylanath E-mail: mu...@gm... || ibr...@bi... Your program compiles fine for me also. However....
>BUT....
> The following Linker Error is being presented:
> Line 2, "Syntax Error before 'int'"
>
1. Linker error? Are you sure, or does it say "Build Error"?
2. Assuming that it is "Build Error", I can reproduce your problem if I
change the program like this:
#include <windows.h>
blet int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, PSTR
szCmdLine, int iCmdShow)
{
....
See the "blet" in there? That give me "sytax error before 'int'". So I
have two ideas:
A. You have an illegal control character (ASCII 0 - 31) in your file.
It doesn't display, but it's still there. Delete completely the first
three lines and retype them carefully by hand. (Don't cut and paste.)
If this doesn't work...
B. You have a bad install of Dev Cpp. "Windows.h" has some problem that
is not correct, but the complier doesn't see the problem until it gets
to the first line of your function definiton. (Note: your "windows.h"
may also have a problem if you ever opened any ".h" file to look at it,
and then accidently pressed a key on the keyboard and saved the file.
If you think this is the case, try to remember which file it was and
see if you can go back and fix it by inspection. Otherwise...) You need
to uninstall Dev-Cpp, then delete manually any remaing files and
directories (including C:\Dev-Cpp). Delete the old install file too.
Empty trash and reboot. Then download Dev Cpp again and re-install it.
Hope this one works better.
Those're my best guesses. Good luck.
Brenden

Let me review, because some new facts happend:
-I'm running in Win'95;
-It's working fine with VC++;
-I have already tried with g++ and the same linker error occurs;
-Compiler Options with CygWin or MingWin produces the same error
code; and...
-This is the First Program of Petzhold's Book, Ch 01.
--->And the problem is:
problem()
{
Hi Folks,
Please give me some help about the following error:
1. I opened the Dev-C++, choose "New Project", choose "Windows
Application", choose "C++ Project" and clicked "OK";
2. I removed from the project the unitc "Untitled" WinMain function
that Dev-C++ puts automatically;
3. I inserted the following unit, called "hello.cpp" in my project:
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
#include <windows.h>
int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, PSTR
szCmdLine, int iCmdShow)
{
MessageBox (NULL, TEXT ("Hello, World!"), TEXT
("HelloMsg"), 0) ;
return 0 ;
}
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
4. The Project Options were automatically checked for "Compile C++
Project" and "Do not create a console";
5. The Compiler Options, too, was whit the "Compile for Win32"
checked;
BUT....
The following Linker Error is being presented:
Line 2, "Syntax Error before 'int'"
What is happening, gentlemen?
}

First think for a sec - how much emails would you get if you subscribe to mailing list that covers such biiiiiig area like C++ or WinAPI??? For such subjects best is to watch some news groups, not the mailing lists... and there are lots of such groups in many languages... T> Thanks -- regards, Zodiaq |

Hello,
do you know any general mailinglists? I've searched for some in the
world wide net but found nothing useful. Could be C++, WinAPI and
Win32.
Thanks

Hello André! I copied the program that you sent exactly as was in the mail, and it compiled without any warnings or errors. The problem is not in the program. Try the following: Run this command from a command-prompt, and see if the error is still there: <directory_of_compiler>/bin/g++ hello.cpp -o hello.exe -s -mwindows -- Best regards, Oroszi Balázs mailto:or...@vp... |
