Hi
I have just installed the Devc++ 5 beta 7
version4.9.7.1 on a windows Me platform.
My window applications work fine but any attemot to
compile the simplest console application results in
massive error messages.I need help,please.
Here's an example:
CONSOLE APPLICATION
#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
cout<< "hello";
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}
The above program is a console application.when I
compiled I receive the errors below,that I copied from
the compiler log.

Hi, that was a good point Per, I probably have a too long command line in the linking step. I have now been able to put all objectives in a single directory but I don't know how to change the OBJ variable to be equal to *.o, how do I do that in DEV-C++. I tried to read about the all-before and all-after stuff but don't understand that very well, please give me a hint. Could you also explain that about response files or give me a reference to read more about it... /Thom |

Ooooooppps! Mi email client is working in a weirdest way. I know, is a silly guess: your proyect is configurated as a C proyect instead of a C++ one?. If not, try adding the C++ headers folder path to the headers path in the proyect options (i.e. C:\Dev-Cpp\include\g++-3). |

Hello dev-cpp-users, i have a question, probably very simple. I'm a delphi programmer, but now i have discovered Dev-C++ i'm spending some time with c++. So i've downloaded "the Forger's api tutorial" (http://www.winprog.org/tutorial/index.html) and some tutorials: www.cprogramming.com Now the question :) i'm trying to create the "forger's" examples with dev-c++ (because msvc++ is much to confusing with all those wizards) the "simple_window" and "window_click" did work fine. I'm now working on the chapter "Menus and Icons" but dev-C++ does not want to compile it. i succeeded to create a window with a menu, but now want it to do something when the user pressing a item. I thought i typed something wrong but i have tried to compile the original example (with import msvc project) but dev-C++ refuse to compile it. i've included to original example (from theForger) Hope someone can help me... Thanks in advance! The errors are: C:\Temp\menu_two\menu_two.c [Warning] In function `LRESULT WndProc(HWND__*, unsigned int, unsigned int,: 29 C:\Temp\menu_two\menu_two.c invalid conversion from `void*' to `HICON__*' 35 C:\Temp\menu_two\menu_two.c invalid conversion from `void*' to `HICON__*' C:\Temp\menu_two\Makefile.win [Build Error] [menu_two.o] Error 1 in case that attachments are 'stripped' #include <windows.h> #define ID_FILE_EXIT 9001 #define ID_STUFF_GO 9002 const char g_szClassName[] = "myWindowClass"; LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hwnd, UINT Message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(Message) { case WM_CREATE: { HMENU hMenu, hSubMenu; HICON hIcon, hIconSm; hMenu = CreateMenu(); hSubMenu = CreatePopupMenu(); AppendMenu(hSubMenu, MF_STRING, ID_FILE_EXIT, "E&xit"); AppendMenu(hMenu, MF_STRING | MF_POPUP, (UINT)hSubMenu, "&File"); hSubMenu = CreatePopupMenu(); AppendMenu(hSubMenu, MF_STRING, ID_STUFF_GO, "&Go"); AppendMenu(hMenu, MF_STRING | MF_POPUP, (UINT)hSubMenu, "&Stuff"); SetMenu(hwnd, hMenu); hIcon = LoadImage(NULL, "menu_two.ico", IMAGE_ICON, 32, 32, LR_LOADFROMFILE); if(hIcon) SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETICON, ICON_BIG, (LPARAM)hIcon); else MessageBox(hwnd, "Could not load large icon!", "Error", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); hIconSm = LoadImage(NULL, "menu_two.ico", IMAGE_ICON, 16, 16, LR_LOADFROMFILE); if(hIconSm) SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETICON, ICON_SMALL, (LPARAM)hIconSm); else MessageBox(hwnd, "Could not load small icon!", "Error", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); } break; case WM_COMMAND: switch(LOWORD(wParam)) { case ID_FILE_EXIT: PostMessage(hwnd, WM_CLOSE, 0, 0); break; case ID_STUFF_GO: MessageBox(hwnd, "You clicked Go!", "Woo!", MB_OK); break; } break; case WM_CLOSE: DestroyWindow(hwnd); break; case WM_DESTROY: PostQuitMessage(0); break; default: return DefWindowProc(hwnd, Message, wParam, lParam); } return 0; } int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { WNDCLASSEX wc; HWND hwnd; MSG Msg; wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = 0; wc.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; wc.cbClsExtra = 0; wc.cbWndExtra = 0; wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.hIcon = NULL; wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(COLOR_WINDOW+1); wc.lpszMenuName = NULL; wc.lpszClassName = g_szClassName; wc.hIconSm = NULL; if(!RegisterClassEx(&wc)) { MessageBox(NULL, "Window Registration Failed!", "Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } hwnd = CreateWindowEx( WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE, g_szClassName, "A Menu #2", WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, 240, 120, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); if(hwnd == NULL) { MessageBox(NULL, "Window Creation Failed!", "Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } ShowWindow(hwnd, nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(hwnd); while(GetMessage(&Msg, NULL, 0, 0) > 0) { TranslateMessage(&Msg); DispatchMessage(&Msg); } return Msg.wParam; } -- Best regards, MisterE mailto:Mis...@zo... |

Note that the Windows environment doesn't support infinitely long command lines, so especially a link line might fail miserably. This is one of the reasons why most MS-DOS and Windows compilers supports response files, where all information from the command line is witten to a text file, and the compiler tool is called with @response_file on the command line. When writing own make files, it helps to put object files in a separate directory, since then it's possible to just specify *.obj (or in this case *.o) in the link step. /Per W On Thu, 2 Jan 2003, Thomas Borrvall wrote: > Hi again, > > thanks for your reply Abhijit. Hi again, thanks for your reply Abhijit. I checked the tabs that you suggested but could not see anything wrong with them. As you say, the funny thing is that it only happens occasionally. What worries me is that I have the source in a system of directories and have since a long time ago adopted the style of having long filenames for the sake of clarity. For instance, a file is called "Source2D/RESTRICTION/DesignToInterpolationMap_2D.cpp". Could this be a problem if many such files (say about 50) are included in the project, do you think? Perhaps this is what you suggested in your reply, I have however installed DEV-C++ in the directory D:\Program\DEV-CPP so this should not cause the problem I would think. I notice that the makefile grows very much with the long filenames and has very long lines because of this. Bye for now, Thom |

This is maybe not the right place to get ahold of the Dev-C++ developers, but I'll put it here anyway. Thanks for the great IDE, first of all. When the last few beta releases started getting good, I switched to Dev-C++ entirely, and I've really begun to like it. I think it would be nice if the autogenerated resource files for things like program icons, version numbers, etc. were put in the project's 'Object file output directory', or at least in it's resource directory. That way, it wouldn't have to clutter up my projects root directory. This actually bothers me enough to discourage me from using these features. :) Thanks, Philip Bock |

MINGW32 is the port of GCC for Windows. Dev-C++ uses the MINGW32 compiler system. However not all portions of MINGW32 are under GNU GPL.=0D =0D "When Colin Peters released the MinGW runtime he placed the source into t= he public domain. Why ? AFAIK, Dev-C++ is distributed under the terms of the GNU license regardless of the OS under which it is compiled. Also (see point 1 of version 2 of GNU license) "... output of the Program is covered only if its contents constitute a work based on the Program ..." So you may write your own program, develop it using Dev-C++ and distribute it under the license which best suits your needs. > I guess Mingw32 is not implemented on Linux, am I correct ? AFAIK, Mingw is a port of GNU gcc (and other tools) to Windows, so there is no need of it on Linux, as one uses gcc (or the other tools) directly. > > Regards, > Piotr -- >> gisan >> Caution: Keep out of reach of children. |
