How do I remove version 4.9.8.0 so I can get back to using version 4. I run Windows 98, and with Dev-C++ 4 things were great. I installed version 4.9.8.0 and it did nor work. When I uninstalled version 4.9.8.0 and the re-instal version 4 that no longer works. Please help, I can not compile any of my course programs. Hi! There are 2 things you can do: 1. Add -D__GNUWIN32__ to C and C++ compiler flags (good choice). 2. ALternatively you can look into include/wx/string.h and comment the #error line, then uncoment the code above it (very inefficient method). -- Greetings, Balázs |

Hi :-) perhaps you try to compile a static lib under windows. you need: - latest wxwindows stable release: www.wxwindows.org - GNU Utils: http://www.braindonors.net/products/unxutils.asp - Tutorial: http://upcase.malteser-gl.de/ - A forum: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=48211 and: http://g.yi.org/Forum/list.php?f=13 (normally very slow and actually down but fantastic. I downloaded imagelib and wxwindows packages from dev-cpp webssite, after
install,
I try to make a project File-> New ->Projekt-> Gui ->wxwindows
It makes main.cpp and main.h, but when I try compile then make errors:

Uh? And then why those:

Shouldn't they be without std::?

I'd suggest, if really someone programming in C++ need a header of the C
standard library, to declare it as <cxxx> without .h, as standard in C++.
Thus, I'd write:
#include <cstdlib>
...
std::system("pause");
Bye, Ferdinando.

As others told, you should use <iostream>, or (at least in Dev-C++5)
you'll have a warning for antiquated header. So:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
> void square()
Should it be int main ()?

if you don't see any result, it could be that you need to wait for an
input, adding a final cin.get () before returning, as others suggested in
another post, because you compiled a program for console, and when you
make it run in a window it close it immediately on returning. Or you can
execute your program really in a console (starting cmd.exe).

Hello,
hmbayati,welcome in this newsgroup,is that possible you to send post in
"texte" format and not in "html"?
The warning message is what your are not compiled a runing program.
You are make a function :" void square()" that return not a value (void).
If you will sea a result use:
int main()
{
//code here....
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------
#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;//<-- for using namespace to the standard librairie c++
int main()
{
std::cout << "hello, you are now in hadi's program.\n";
int num;
std::cout << "enter a number and I will give you its square.\n";
std::cin >> num;
std::cout << "the square of " <<num<<" is : "<<num * num << endl;
system("PAUSE");//<-- make a pose for view the result in the console
return 0;//<-- return a value (0 for example) due to the "int main()"
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------
there are another way to make this but this the more simply i say.

I see a couple of problems with that code:
1) <iostream.h> is depreciated in C++. C standard libraries still have th=
e=20
.h appended to the include file, but for C++, just have #include <iostrea=
m>
2) You need to include the line "using namespace std;" after including=20
iostream. I'm not actually sure why (I usually work in pure C rather than=
=20
C++), but it's a necessary line. Maybe someone else here can explain what=
=20
that does.
3) You're missing a main function. All C/C++ programs need to call main()=
=20
before anything else. Rename square() to main() and you'll be fine. main=20
also has to be declared as an int rather than a void.
4) Because main is returning an int now, change "return" to "return 0" (0=
=20
indicates that the program has successfully terminated)
5) This isn't really an error, but it's generally a good idea to declare=20
all (local) variables at the start of the relevant function. This helps=20
make the code more readable. Move int num up a line.
So we end up with this:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int num;
cout << "hello, you are now in hadi's program.\n";
cout << "enter a number and I will give you its square.\n";
cin >> num;
cout << "the square of " <<num<<" is : "<<num * num << endl;
return 0;
}

Hi,
Use:
#include <iostream>
The ".h" stuff is out of date.

Hi everyone,
I am a new comer to the world of the Dev-C++ and C++ in general. I am
trying to understand the GUI but I am not successful. I compiled and run
a very simple program like
#include <iostream.h>
void square()
{
cout << "hello, you are now in hadi's program.\n";
int num;
cout << "enter a number and I will give you its square.\n";
cin >> num;
cout << "the square of " <<num<<" is : "<<num * num << endl;
return;
}
I get a warning but when I run it I do not get any results. Could
someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
I am on XP home edition and I set the project for WIN 32 console.
Thanks for your help,
HB
