I could have sworn that in some previous release of Dev-C++ there was a command line switch that could be used during invocation of Devcpp that would tell it the name of the config/ini file to use. I had 3 different ones set up so I could do Mingw and gcc2.95, or mingw and gcc 3.1, or Cygwin and gcc2.95. Am I mistaken and this really was not working or did this go away accidentally or on purpose in 4.9.6. Just curious if its a bug or a feature or if I missed something. |

It's not a tutorial per se, but it's just as good as one, imho: http://www.gnu.org/manual/make-3.79.1/html_chapter/make_toc.html You could also try the O'Reilly book: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/make2/ Good luck, B Tvienti wrote: > Hello, > > I'm new to this list. Besides the normal *.h, the following extensions are more or less regularly used for cpp header files: *.hpp, *.hh and *.H At least for gcc <= 3.00, *.h have is a specially known extension, i.e. gcc knows that it should ignore any *.h files it gets on the command line. Since *.hpp isn't specially known, it is assumed to be an object file, and gets forwarded to the linker. One reason why this might be interesting: my_prog: foo.c bar.h gcc $^ -o $@ In this case, the make file doesn't make use of automatic dependancy rules, but will still with a very simple rule build the program. /Per W On Tue, 26 Nov 2002, Ioannis Vranos wrote: > > -----Original Message----- > > From: dev...@li... > > [mailto:dev...@li...] On Behalf > > Of Daniel Glenfield > > Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 6:40 PM > > To: dev...@li... > > Subject: [Dev-C++] Quick Q - what does .hpp mean? > > > > > > Does .hpp mean the file is a strict C++ header file? Hello,
I use DevC++ with a seperate installation Mingw and Msys. I just

I reverted to my old version MSYS-1.0.8-2002.09.07-1.exe and it
compiled OK. The program in question links to a static Library that i
created in C:\Programs\WinLib. The latest release candidate of MSYS
works fine for all my programs that don't link to my static library.
Can anyone please let me know what is going on and how to sort it out.
Napoleon.

Subject: [Dev-C++] Function Syntax C++
I want to write a function that will validate my C++ prgram. I want the
function to display a message if wrong value type is entered. For
example -
int number1;
cout << " Enter your number. The number must be between 1 and 4: " ;
cin >> number1;
if the user enter, a char value instead of a int value, i want the
function to display a message of violation of variable type.
Is it possible to write this type of function and what is the syntax.

Execute->Parameters... I enter the parameters, but I cannot do anything in the host program field. Of course I run the program with Ctrl + F10 and there are no parameters passed in. |

Hi:
I want open two files, move the contents of the first to the second
after a little work on them. I use fstream. I open both files, one for
reading and the other for reading and writing, first I read from first
file, modify the data and write to the second file. Then I rewind the
second file (No, I don't say rewind(file) I use member seekg)and read
from it for work with the data once them have been formatted to my like.
The problem is that the second file is not created.
If in the while where I read from it I put cout for each line then the
console keeps printing newlines all the time without end; if don't it
passes the while body and then when I use system() for remove the file
it says couldn't remove the file because it doesn't exist.
Below is a sketch of the code. I tried with both orders of opening, and
with the second I proved with ios::in | ios::out and opening first with
out, then closing it and opening again with in.
The question is why does it happen?
I edited the file fstream, but I don't find any exception I could try.
char inName[255], outName[255];
fstream inFile, outFile;
I want read the second again and then delete it, so:
inFile.open(inName, ios::in);
outFile.open(outName, ios::in | ios::out);
while(!inFile.eof()){
inFile.getline(buffer, 255);
outFile << buffer << endl;
}
outFile.seekg(0, ios::beg);
while(!outFile.of()){
outFile.getline(buffer, 255);
cout << buffer << endl;
}
strcpy(buffer, "rm ");
strcat(buffer, outName);
system(buffer);

It would be helpful if we knew what was happening. C code should compile perfectly under Dev-Cpp (mine does). To get help, please list all error messages you see at the bottom of the IDE window so we can puzzle them out. And since this is your first program, and therefore probably very short, cut and paste the whole program so we can take a gander at it as well. B. Does .hpp mean the file is a strict C++ header file? I've seen it around but I always use .h for all my headers. You can do the following
after
cin >> number1;
if ( ! cin ) { // something went wrong, for interactive input
// most probably a format error
cin.clear(); // clear the error condition
cin.ignore(10000,'\n'); // ignore upto the end of line (upto 10000 chars)
cerr << "invalid input - please try again ";
cin >> number1;
}
if writing a loop around this, don't forget to offer another exit to
terminate the program.

Yes, it is possible! Use a string variable to hold user's input value, then check its content and convert it to integer if appropriate (store integer value in a new variable, of course). Then you'll be able to use this integer value... Regards, ~Santy -----Original Message----- From: Olu...@ao... [mailto:Olu...@ao...] Sent: martes, 26 de noviembre de 2002 10:53 To: dev...@li... First, NEVER use HTML formatting in mails to mailing lists and/or newsgroups... Second: tell more about you problems... the information that compiler produces would be very helpful...
