Change the Aria headers directly, or make the time.h include yourself, before the Aria includes. Anyway, what is this "Aria" system, that you use? -- Greetings, Balazs |

Hello, Graham. > My book defines "/n" as new line. > And defines " endl " as end line. > But gives me no clue as to what the difference is or when to use which. > can anyone explain the difference to me ? Two differences you should know: '\n' is new-line to C, and to Unix, but may not be new-line to your OS. For example, for Windows, "\r\n" is new-line. IIRC, for macs, it's just '\r'. endl takes care of these platform specific thingies for you (as a matter of fact, so does '\n' in files opened in text mode in STDIO, but endl is a more graceful and conformant solution. Next, endl makes sure that the text that you've written is flushed. Most streams have a buffer, so that when you write to them, the connected device or file is not updated instantly, but the results are stored in memory (this is for reasons of speed). endl makes sure that they (the files or devices) are updated. If in doubt, use endl. If you're working with raw data (binary files or such), then you will have to use '\n'. When you start working with binary files, you should be able to tell the difference anyway, if your book is any good. Hope this helps. -- Abhijit Shylanath Homepage: http://mudeth.tripod.com/ |

Hello, Pukara.
Try #including <time.h> before all your Aria headers. <time.h> is ANSI, and
is portable. I don't know why they've decided not to work with it on
Windows, but you can try it out anyway.
Specifically:
* time_t is legal.
* timeb.h is the header for the Unix ftime() function, and is not ANSI.
Here's a dump of what my reference says about ftime():
-- Cut here --
Syntax
#include <sys\timeb.h>
void ftime(struct timeb *buf)
Description
Stores current time in timeb structure.
On UNIX platforms ftime is available only on System V systems.
ftime determines the current time and fills in the fields in the timeb
structure pointed to by buf. The timeb structure contains four fields: time,
millitm, _timezone, and dstflag:
struct timeb {
long time ;
short millitm ;
short _timezone ;
short dstflag ;
};
time provides the time in seconds since 00:00:00 Greenwich mean time (GMT)
January 1 1970.
millitm is the fractional part of a second in milliseconds.
_timezone is the difference in minutes between GMT and the local time. This
value is computed going west from GMT. ftime gets this field from the global
variable _timezone which is set by tzset.
dstflag is set to nonzero if daylight saving time is taken into account
during time calculations.
Note: ftime calls tzset. Therefore it isn't necessary to call tzset
explicitly when you use ftime.
Return Value
None.

Does it take the same command-line arguments as GCC? Does it output errors in the same way? In other words, is the interface the same? If it is, it should work in Dev, without the need for any hack. Only if the interface is different (different output format, different arguments, different filenames, etc.), do we have to think about other ways. What do you think ? Yes, I'll look at those first, since I am horrified at the prospect of a huge download; I'm a poor little dial-up user. :'-( I will need a log of a compilation session also (along with the makefile for that session). -- Abhijit Shylanath Homepage: http://mudeth.tripod.com/ |

Yes, I found those settings soon after I sent the mail... but the point of my e-mail is still valid though... I think the _default_ behaviour, the default shortcuts, should be changed... without the user having to change it him/herself first. The shortcuts Ctrl+F4 and Alt+F4 have a clearly defined behaviour for all Windows applications, and deviating from that is frustrating to the user. -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Thank you for the quick answer: >I dunno. >What exactly is this library, that you are working with? Well it says: ArLog is a utility class to log all messages from Aria to a choosen destintation. Messages can be logged to stdout, stderr, a file, and turned off completely. Logging by default is set to stdout. The level of logging can be changed as well. Allowed levels are Terse, Normal, and Verbose. By default the level is set to Normal. Aria is the system I am using. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Since you have worked in windows, could you tell me: time_t or this kind of things are not used in windows? I asked because I open both files: time.h and timeb.h and while time.h seems very complete (with the definition of time_t for instance) , timeb.h seems incomplete. Is there a equivalent of time_t for windows. Is the file timeb.h correct? Or for that matter should I cheat the compiler and make it think we are in windows....hummm. I am confused. Are those files complete? Sorry for so many questions, it is that I want to start working already and I am stuck in the no compilation problem and the Aria guys dont answer me yet :( thanks a lot OROSZI_Bal#30169;s <or...@vp...> wrote: Yes, as you see, it tells you, that time_t is not declared. Which means, that (assuming you have -DWIN32 on command line) sys/timeb.h is not going to be good for you. I suppose, that they used MSVC for the library's Windows port, and probably sys/timeb.h worked well for them. It is only my guess though. Anyway, if you look at , you'll notice, that it actually includes , which has time_t. So what you need is: I guess you already noticed all the above, as you asked about the difference details. I cannot tell you that, as I have never worked with time stuff under linux. Maybe a linux guru here can tell you more. You're sending your system "tel" but unless you have a program
called "tel" you get what you got on your system.
Try:
system(tel);

I have no idea though why it has them, as the jpeg library has these functions. Maybe you should try to recompile the jpeg library from the code. -- Greetings, Balázs |

Small problem. Room descriptions are strings of variable length. Also the exit descriptions are included in the same structure(also varible length strings). This can cause the size of a room to vary greatly). This might still work if I were to put a limit on how long a room description could be and padd shorter descriptions to make it equal the standard size ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Wood" <ke...@me...> To: "Dev-C Mailing List" <dev...@li...> Sent: Friday, August 01, 2003 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [Dev-C++] Quick flat-file searching and I/O > Hi everyone, > > I think the quickest way to access a portion of a file is to structure it, > then use the fseek function from stdio. > > In the case we are considering, the data for each room should be about the > same size.
