I have never tried to locate information about the xls file format. However, there are Excel ODBC drivers out there that might be an idea to look into - shouldn't be too much different from using a MySQL backend. /Per W On Mon, 6 Dec 2004 wa...@wa... wrote: > On 4 Dec 2004 at 21:39, giampietro.gardenghi wrote: > > > Hi, > > I'm a beginner C++ user, and I'm tring to output an array in excel > > format: the only result I have accomplished is to obtain an array > > which excel reads as separate rows but not sepate columns. You can write out your text file in a delimited format and then when you read the file, tell it you want to read in a delimited file and tell it the delimiter. You can delimit columns on white space (like spaces or tabs) or you can use a predefined character (like '^' or '|' or ','). Someone's already posted how to print out with tabs. OR, you can actually find out what the file format is for .xls files and write out your file in that format. But that's going to be a bit more complicated and I don't know the .xls format. You can probably dig it up with a little research and/or experimentation. Watson (the pencil neck) Davis |

Hi Guillermo,
system ("cmd"); include <stdlib.h>
Of course provided that the command interpreter is named cmd. There's also other calls such as spawn, etc. Depends on whether you want a stand alone child process or not.

I would like to know how to get a command console to appear along with = my windows app using dev-cpp 4991 w/mingw3.4.2 on a windows 2000 Pro SP4 = system? I have seen code from other people where along with the window app they = can get a command Prompt to appear. I have even seen it in the FLTK example programs, but I can not get it = to happen. sorry if this belongs in another mailing list, thanks in advance. Depends on how you store the name.
If it is a C string.
str[0] = toupper(str[0]);
If it is a std::string you might do:
std::string str = "hello world";
str[0] = toupper(str[0]);
or you might try something fancy and use transformations:
struct ToUpper {
char operator() (char c) const { return std::toupper(c); }
};
...
std::string str = "hello world";
std::transform(str.begin(),str.end(),str.begin(),ToUpper());
to convert the full string to upper case.

Hi, dev-c++ users, I have a very basic question I can't solve. I want to upper the first letter of a sentence. For example I have: "john is tall". I want to turn this into "John is tall". How do I do that? Thanks in advance! Alexsandro. _________________________________________________________________ Natal no MSN Shopping: COMPROU, GANHOU $$! Hi there,
I was trying to port the code of a library to use it in my own project and I
found something interesting.
The problem is that if you have a class B, that extends another class A.
Then when using the template MyTemplateClass<B> does not have any
relationship with the class MyTemplateClass<A>.
You can see some experiments in the code presented below.
If someone has a more detailed documentation (specification) explaning why
this cannot be done I would appreciate.
Kind regards,
8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<-----8<----
-
#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;
template <class T>
class Ref{
T* ptr;
public:
Ref(T* p)
{
this->ptr = p;
};
Ref( const Ref<T>& clone)
{
this->ptr = clone.ptr;
};
T* get()
{
return ptr;
}
// [added after] to make this type
// plymorphic
virtual void trick(void )
{
};
};
class A
{
public:
A()
{
};
virtual void ping()
{
cout << "A" <<endl;
};
};
class B: public A
{
public:
B():A()
{
};
virtual void ping()
{
cout << "B" <<endl;
};
};
void test_call(Ref<A>& x )
{
x.get()->ping();
//just a test
};
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
A* a= new A();
B* b= new B();
Ref<A>* ref_a = new Ref<A>(a);
Ref<B>* ref_b = new Ref<B>(b);
//-------------------
//test_call(*ref_a);
//->this is ok !
// output:
// $ A
// $ press any key to continue...
//-------------------
//test_call(*ref_b);
// compilation problem.
//->log:
// could not convert *reb_b to
// Ref<A>& .... mmmmm
//so try to cast....
//static_cast
//test_call(static_cast< Ref<A> >(*ref_b));
// mmmm does not work ! :(
//log:
//main.cpp:53: no matching function for call to `Ref<A>::Ref(Ref<B>&)'
//main.cpp:15: candidates are: Ref<T>::Ref(const Ref<T>&) [with T = A]
//main.cpp:11: Ref<T>::Ref(T*) [with T = A]
//ok dynamic cast now !!
//Ref<A>* tmp = dynamic_cast< Ref<A>* >(ref_b);
//if(tmp)
//{
// test_call(* tmp );
//}
//else
//{
//cout << "error with the cast...." <<endl;
//}
//main.cpp: In function `int main(int, char**)':
//main.cpp:86: cannot dynamic_cast `ref_b' (of type `class Ref<B>*') to
type `
//class Ref<A>*' (source type is not polymorphic)
//I suspect that the compiler consider Ref<A> as not
//being plymorphic ... so add a virtual method
//to this class and see what will happen...
//see [added after] in class Ref
Ref<A>* tmp = dynamic_cast< Ref<A>* >(ref_b);
if(tmp)
{
test_call(* tmp );
}
else
{
cout << "error with the cast...." <<endl;
}
// Now the program compiles but the
// during the runtime the dynamic_cast
// does not work ! ,(
//conclusion...
// even if B extends A; Ref<B> has no relationship with Ref<A>
//!!!!!!!!!! a bit strange...
//the correct method is to do as follows:
//rebuild the class manually.
A* tmp_ptr = static_cast<A* >(ref_b->get()); //or dynamic_cast
Ref<A> tmp_ref_a (tmp_ptr);
test_call(tmp_ref_a);
//And now the output is :
// $ B
// $ press any key to continue...
// ok!
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}
