But your application will be dependent on the Cygwin DLLs, which can be a nuisance. I always prefer native code over emulation, especially when the emulation requires 3rd party libraries. ________________________________ From: dev...@li... Subject: [Dev-C++] Get socket with socket function Hi all, I managed to compile a simple program that should just wait for an icoming connection on a inet type socket. I did it under Mac OS X and Linux, and I want to do the same thing with dev-cpp. Due to explanation give on this mailing list (thanks for your quick and usefull answers), I change the code to use winsock.h instead of sys/socket.h. I added the necessary library and DLLs. The program starts correctly and get it the function to create the socket file descriptor (it is very simple) : int sockfd; sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0); BUT the result of socket function is always -1 (sockfd = -1). What could be the cause of that ? I found a similar example of socket creation for windows, I did exactly the same as in the example. The only thing I have found in "socket" man page is : "A -1 is returned if an error occurs" But how can an error happen at this step ? Thank you for any advice. Best regards. |

Where did you inform DevC++ that you wanted to link your application with the mysql library? From the compiler output, you can see where the linker looks for libraries (-L"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib"). However, that is not enough. You also have to tell it which extra libraries you need, such as -lmySQL. Did you try c:\Dev-Cpp\Examples\MySQLClientTest? /Per W On Wed, 29 Oct 2003, Guillermo Krepper wrote: > Hi, > =09I=B4m just starting to do some tests with MySQL, downloaded and > installed the Dev Pack. There are no Dev C++ Implemented Basic Library, since Dev C++ isn't a compiler but an IDE. Check out MinGW (the used compiler), gcc (which MinGW is based on) or Microsoft MSDN - since you are programming on the Windows platform. /Per W On Wed, 29 Oct 2003, Roger Chrispim wrote: > Dear fellows, > > I found nice documents on the page > "http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html", but I did not find a document > like a Dev C++ User Guide or Dev C++ Implemented Basic Library. > > Is there a good reference to use with Dev C++. > > Thanks for your help > > Roger > > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.525 / Virus Database: 322 - Release Date: 9/10/2003 > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program. > Does SourceForge.net help you be more productive? Dear fellows, I runned the API examples WinTest and WinMenu that come with Dev C++ (folder Dev-Cpp\Examples\) with absolute sucess. Hi all, I noticed that the errno value doesn't seem to contain the last error. So I used WSAGetLastError() function to retrieve what happened when using "socket" function. According to results (WSANOTINITIALISED), it seems that I have do initialize something when working with socket under windows. This makes, of course, code less portable due to specific Windows initialisation... But OK, I did initializsation. The problem is that now, the error is "WSAEAFNOSUPPORT". Is there so many differences between linux and windows when creating a socket ? Does soemone use inet sockets under dev-cpp and have a simple example ? I am under Win 95 (pretty old, I know...). Perhaps do I ask my questions to the wrong list (as my problems are not dev-cpp specific problems). If this is the case, can someone propose me a list where these questions will better match lists topic ? Best regards. |

Hello, I'm trying to play sound from a C program using DirectSound ( Secondary Buffer ) and I'm getting an error: 109 dxsound.c structure has no member named `CreateSoundBuffer' piece of code is: #include <windows.h> #include <mmsystem.h> #include <dsound.h> [...] IDirectSound pds; /* DirectSound object */ IDirectSoundBuffer pdsbuffer; /* sound buffer */ /* initialization of DirectSound, CooperativeLevel etc. */ /* create wave format description */ memset( &pcmwf, 0, sizeof( WAVEFORMATEX ) ); /* filling the values */ /* create sound buffer description */ memset( &dsbd, 0, sizeof( DSBUFFERDESC ) ); /* filling the values */ IDirectSound_CreateSoundBuffer( &pdsbuffer, &dsbd, &pdsbuffer, NULL ); does anyone know the solution to this? I can send the entire unit if needed. Also when I tried to compile I was getting duplicate definition errors between dsound.h and mmsystem.h. The changes I had to make were: in mmsystem.h line 1008: change #ifndef _WAVEFORMATEX_ #define _WAVEFORMATEX_ to: #ifndef _WAVEFORMATEX_ #define _WAVEFORMATEX_ #define _LPCWAVEFORMATEX_DEFINED in dsound.h line 1899: change: typedef struct IDirectSoundFullDuplex *LPDIRECTSOUNDFULLDUPLEX; to: //typedef struct IDirectSoundFullDuplex *LPDIRECTSOUNDFULLDUPLEX; Am I missing something? Thanks in advance, Marek |

Link the appropriate libraries :P I believe you need libws2_32.a (if I guess correctly from the name I used to use in VC++... ws2_32.lib). Regards, Paul -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... [mailto:dev...@li...] On Behalf Of Alain Paschoud Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 3:13 PM To: dev...@li... Subject: [Dev-C++] Linker problem Hi all, I just redo my program to use winsock.h instead of <sys/sock.h>. Now, the header is found, and there is no compilation problem. But the linker can't find the functions I use (like "socket", "htons", "bind", etc.). This means, I suppose, that at least one library is not found by the linker (message : "Undifined reference to socket@12"). What should I do so that the linker can find the necessary functions ? "Effective STL" is a book in the Professional Computing Series, by Addison Wesley. I don't have the book myself, but I do own several other similar books (some in the same series)... (Effective C++, More Effective C++, Exceptional C++, More Exceptional C++, C++ Gotchas)... these books address specific issues on an item by item basis. I still have to buy Effective STL, so I can't really help you with the contents of Item 5, but I'm sure someone else here owns the book and can tell you what Item 5 is about :) Regards, Paul -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... I thought I was doing well, traversing through theForger's Win32 API = Tutorial, until I reached the simple applications part. That's when I = realized I didn't have a firm grasp on the difference between windows, = dialogs, and controls. He says, "controls are just windows" which = doesn't make sense. I thought controls lived within windows. Resource = usage is also a bit vague. It's an excellent tutorial but I need more = theory. I know I need to go buy a book, but I'm a bit short on cash and = the books are $50. Is there a good, extensive, online tutorial on C++ = which explains MFC, OpenSource/GL, APIs, etc, then goes, from the = beginning, explaining windows programming - dialogs, windows, resources, = classes, etc. I'm pretty good with programming in a UNIX environment, = but this windows stuff is very new, and very exciting. Also, which is the best book to buy when I raise the finances? Rob |

1. The reason I wrote 'getimage(x-3,y-2,...)' is when I wrote 'getimage(x,
y,...)' it did'nt cover the complete text because the characters sometimes
goes over the actual starting point a little.
2. As for the char[70] parameter, I did that because in my program (which I
was using it for) I used char[70] right through it!
I did'nt need to put anything else in it! But I've changed it now!
3. (How do you check if LOOP (num) characters fits within your allocated
image buffer?) Good point! How do you?

Hi all, I just redo my program to use winsock.h instead of <sys/sock.h>. Now, the header is found, and there is no compilation problem. This means, I suppose, that at least one library is not found by the linker (message : "Undifined reference to socket@12"). What should I do so that the linker can find the necessary functions ? No, I haven't seen the reason for your problem. However, just some
questions:
- You assume that x >= 3, since you do getimage(x-1,...)
- You assume that y >= 2, ...
- As input you take a char[70] parameter but inside, you use num+1
positions - why not just say char get_string[].
- How do you check if LOOP (num) characters fits within your allocated
image buffer?

HI Joeri, Although I'm a Borland fan, in this special case, I think that DevC++ is right. This is named to be: "C++'s most vexing feature" (or some variation of it), by Scott Meyers. If you need the complete discusion, look Item 5 in Effective STL (ESTL). I haven't got the book now, and am in a hurry. But if you need the bibliography do an amazon search. In short, change the line you've mentioned to the following: outport((PORT+TXDOFFSET),(TXDHIGH)); Regards, --Hossein -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup CareerBuilder.com has over 400,000 jobs. I've created a program in Dev-C++ and have no problem runing it! But =
when i try to run it from the .EXE file it seems to behave differently. =
The problem is I've created a function similar to 'cin.getline()' but =
for 'BGI' graphics, the function works fine when i run it in Dev-C++.=20
[code]
void bgi_getline(int x, int y, char get_string[70], int num)
{
for(int LOOP2=3D0; LOOP2<70; LOOP2++)
{
get_string[LOOP2]=3D0;
}
void *image;
bool special_key_press=3DFALSE;
char any_string[20];
int size_string_height=3Dtextheight(any_string);
image=3Dnew char[imagesize(x-3,y-2,getmaxx(),y+size_string_height+5)];
getimage(x-3,y-2,getmaxx(),y+size_string_height+5,image);
for(int LOOP=3D0; LOOP<num; LOOP++)
{
get_string[LOOP]=3Dgetch();
if(get_string[LOOP]=3D=3D0)
{
special_key_press=3DTRUE;
getch();
LOOP--;
}
else if((int)get_string[LOOP]=3D=3D13)
{
get_string[LOOP]=3D0;
return;
}
else if((int)get_string[LOOP]=3D=3D8)
{
if(LOOP=3D=3D0)
{
get_string[LOOP]=3D0;
LOOP--;
}
else
{
get_string[LOOP]=3D0;
putimage(x-3,y-2,image,COPY_PUT);
get_string[LOOP-1]=3D0;
LOOP=3DLOOP-2;
}
}
else if(!(((int)get_string[LOOP]>=3D97) && =
((int)get_string[LOOP]<=3D122)))
{
if(!(((int)get_string[LOOP]>=3D65) && ((int)get_string[LOOP]<=3D90)))
{
if((int)get_string[LOOP]!=3D32)
{
get_string[LOOP]=3D0;
LOOP--;
}
}
}
if(special_key_press=3D=3DFALSE)
{
outtextxy(x, y, get_string);
}
special_key_press=3DFALSE;
}
}
[end code]
When i run this in Dev-C++ it works fine but when i run the program from =
the .EXE file it has a problem with the delete feature in 'void =
bgi_getline(int, int, char, int)' As you can see in the code it gets =
the image of the background first with 'getimage()' then puts it back =
with 'putimage()' so you can see the new string. In the .EXE file it =
deletes but you can still see the old string there! For some weird =
reason it is not using the 'getimage()' and 'putimage()' functions =
properly!
If anyone can help me in any way that would be great! Thank You!
