Guys, guys, you are forgetting one important thing: How in the world am I supposed to get a free copy of Borland C++ Builder? (Dev-C++ is for Win32 remember?) I lost contact with my national warez dealer a year ago so warez isn't an option :-) |

I still don't get it... won't this do?
void Exception::SetErrorLog()
{
ofstream f("log.txt");
f << text_string << endl;
f << "Error-code " << err_code << endl;
}

Ah, but Obj has two data members, which are a text string (which details the precise error) and an integer (which is the error code). SetErrorLog() outputs this information to a text file. I suppose one way would be to make a copy of Obj (Obj2) and then pass obj so Obj2.SetErrorLog( Obj ); >From: "Abhijit Shylanath" <mu...@gm...> >To: "Daniel Glenfield" ><sp...@ho...>,<dev...@li...> >Subject: Re: [Dev-C++] Object passing itself >Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2002 22:16:20 +0530 > >It seems it should work (though I haven't tried it)... though it beats me >why you should pass in an exception object to an exception method... it >defeats the purpose of OOP, that of every object being self-contained. Yeoh said : > In Project Options, have you included this? > -lcomctl32 Excellent ! It works OK now ! I guessed it was something like that, but examining the makefile created by DevCPP, I just thought reading the "-L" option that the linker was scanning all the libs in the lib directory to match the code calls. Stupid thought, yes I must admit now... Kind regards -- Seb |

It seems it should work (though I haven't tried it)... though it beats me why you should pass in an exception object to an exception method... it defeats the purpose of OOP, that of every object being self-contained. It should, I feel, be Exception::SetErrorLog(); -------------------------- "I'm not as thunk as you drink I am." -------------------------- Checked with NAV 2002 http://mudeth.tripod.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel Glenfield" <sp...@ho...> To: <dev...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 6:58 PM Subject: [Dev-C++] Object passing itself > Can an object pass itself into the function it is calling? > > void DevModeDlg::OnSysCommand( UINT ID, LPARAM LParameter ) > { > try > { > DoOnSysCommandWork(); > } > catch ( Exception &Obj ) > { > Obj.SetErrorLog( &Obj ) // <--- Here > } > > } > > > where SetErrorLog > > void Exception::SetErrorLog( Exception &Obj ) > { > //... create a text file and put in data contained in Obj. > } > > I tried 'this' but b/c I'm inside another class' function it tries to pass > that object (DevModeDlg) |

Try adding '-lws2_32' to 'Project Options' > 'Linker Options'. This causes it to link in the WinSock2 library. Many people seem to be having this problem with libraries so a small explanation follows: Just like when you declare a function, you define it at a later point, the same has to be done for standard library functions (like connect() for winsock). The header files you include (in this case 'winsock2.h') only contain the declarations of the functions, not the definitions. The definitions are contained in separate source files (.cpp) which are compiled into library files... here, all winsock source files are compiled into object files (.o) and bundled into 'libws2_32.a', so you need to link it in to actually use them. I hope I was clear. ----- Original Message ----- From: cim To: dev...@li... Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 7:00 PM Subject: [Dev-C++] Problems with "winsock2.h" Anyone could explain me why for every function included in "winsock2.h" compiler says "[Linker error] undefined reference to 'FUNCTION_NAME @ INT'" (for example, for the function "connect" the message is "[Linker error] undefined reference to `connect @ 12'"). How can i solve this problem? Thanks, Max |

If a library is present in the 'lib' directory, it doesn't neccessarily meant that it's linked in. To specify that you want to add, say libfoo.a to the project, in 'Project options' > 'Linker Options', type in '-lfoo'. So here, you'd specify '-lcomctl32'. Hope this helps. ---------Original Message--------- Hi there Just downloaded the ToolTipCtrl C++ class from codebytes to get some "bubble help" on my App. It needs commctrl.h and _WIN32_IE defined on a higher value of 0x300. All is OK by this side But then, there is a linker error saying that it is impossible to link the definition of InitCommonControlsEx() function to any piece of object code. Did I miss something ? Isn't it included in libcommctl32.a, in the lib directory ? Kind regards -- Seb |

Yes, all here are C++ programmers, but only a fraction of us know Delphi. Once the port is complete, I guess the Delphi version can be abandoned and the C++ version continued: 1. It's an IDE for C++. I was really surprised when I found out that Dev-C++ is coded in Delphi, I'm sure you were too :) 2. It can be ported to other platforms 3. It'll be cleaner... more people can read the code and actually understand and modify it 4. Support for other compilers? (BCC32 comes to mind) So, is anyone willing to port to C++? |

----- Original Message ----- From: Met...@ao... To: dev...@li... Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 8:50 PM Subject: [Dev-C++] IntCommonControlsEx linking problem ! Hi there Just downloaded the ToolTipCtrl C++ class from codebytes to get some "bubble help" on my App. Kind regards -- Seb Hi, >Isn't it included in libcommctl32.a, in the lib directory ? The file name is libcomctl32.a. Development of an IDE in C++ may actually be a pretty good project for students and enthusiasts of the language, and some might really enjoy using and IDE they helped create in some way. So there could be some benefit at least with regard to enjoyment of the project. I doubt my C++ skills are adequately developed to make a significant contribution to such a project yet. However, if I were to follow such a project from the start, this might change rapidly. So from a learning perspective, I'm intrigued. Anyone could explain me why for every function included in "winsock2.h" = compiler says "[Linker error] undefined reference to 'FUNCTION_NAME @ = INT'" (for example, for the function "connect" the message is =20 "[Linker error] undefined reference to `connect @ 12'"). How can i solve this problem? Thanks, Max |

Can an object pass itself into the function it is calling?
void DevModeDlg::OnSysCommand( UINT ID, LPARAM LParameter )
{
try
{
DoOnSysCommandWork();
}
catch ( Exception &Obj )
{
Obj.SetErrorLog( &Obj ) // <--- Here
}
}
where SetErrorLog
void Exception::SetErrorLog( Exception &Obj )
{
//... create a text file and put in data contained in Obj.
}
I tried 'this' but b/c I'm inside another class' function it tries to pass
that object (DevModeDlg)

Hello friends, I have the same problem as Mac Reiter in message #9106970. The debugging= seems doesn't work. Can anybody help where I do the mistake or where the= problem is? Thank you very much, have a nice day and with best regards, Vaclav Kremen. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------= -- FROM: Mac Reiter DATE: 07/05/2002 08:42:47 SUBJECT: RE: [Dev-C++] Debugging with 4.9.4.1 I hate to ask again, but I'm about to get sent off on a business trip and I would like to play with Dev-C++ during some of the sleepless hours between the end of official business and when I am able to get to sleep. Why don't breakpoints seem to work in 4.9.4.1? I have turned on debugging myself (first project), and I have also allowed the IDE to turn on debugging and rebuild (second project, when I pressed Debug on a non-debuggable build). I get exactly the same results in both cases. In both cases, the breakpoints are claimed to be invalid, and the debugger terminates the program. If it was written in C++ and thus we had a clue of what is going on in the code, Dev-C++ would be definately more stable. The main problem is that its authors are mainly Pascal/Delphi programmers. :) Ioannis * Ioannis Vranos * Programming pages: http://www.noicys.cjb.net * Alternative URL: http://run.to/noicys |
