When compiling any project I get the following linker error: gcc: \cc490425.i: No such file or directory C:\Dev-c~1\bin\windres: gcc exited with status 1: can't execute 'gcc': No error. I have come across the following error on a couple of machines. Removing Dev-C++ and reinstalling doesn't help. One machine I needed to reformat the hard disk, for completely different reasons, and that sorted it out! But I feel that is rather too drastic to fix the laptop! The only solution I have come across is to remove the resource file from the project. Does anyone have any suggestions? Graeme. |

Came across the 1994 version of "Opengl Programming Guide", I couldn't = get to the auxiliary file that goes with it, but on second viewing it = could easily be replaced by glut.=20 Check it out at: http://fly.srk.fer.hr/~unreal/theredbook/ Best of luck Vas. |

Hi everybody, I also get this error (both 4.0 and 4.01, even before 3.x). It happens somehow randomly but it's related with renaming/adding/removing source files (generally those named Untitled.cpp or Untitled.h, etc) from projects. What I've seen is that when the problem appears in one project it generally stays there (as it is saved as a wrong parameter) so the only solution to get rid of it is create a new project. To avoid the problem what I do is the following: - With Windows Explorer I make a copy of a *.cpp or *.h file and then rename the copy to the name I want. Finally I add this to the project. - I never use the option "Add source" because the bug. Hope this helps. --- Julio Lajara <ju2...@ya...> escribió: > It's the compiler, not your code or your system... > when I run Dev-C++ 4.01 I get that same error every > once in a while. Hi Nico, I have been experiencing your same problem while running Dev C++ 4.01 (downloaded from the Bloodshed site) on a Win 98 system. I posted a bug report to Colin Laplace and he offered to correct the problem on the next version. I know that a few other users have the same problem (I still wonder why all the other users seem to be immune!) but I don't know how they solved it. My solution to the problem si a simple one: avoid using the project manager of Dev C++. I manage my project by a small command line tool (developed by me) that writes a make file for me: this might sound "old fashion" but it works! If you are interested or find some other way, let me know. At 14.12 24/07/01 +0200, you wrote: >I'm running the 4.01 version of DevCpp (delivered on the Bloodshed Software >CD) on an NT4 system with SP6. Well i know this is a bit off topic but i consider it very interesting for all the developers. I just got these news: 1. =3D=3D=3D=3D NEWS AND VIEWS =3D=3D=3D=3D=20 (contributed by Paul Thurrott, News Editor, thu...@wi...) * SENATE COMMITTEE PUTS BRAKES ON WINDOWS XP The Senate Judiciary Committee announced late yesterday that it will meet in September to debate Windows XP and its effects on Internet competition. XP, which Microsoft plans to ship in October, has been at the center of a growing controversy because of its numerous product bundlings, which critics say are anticompetitive. Given the company's recent legal defeat at the hands of a federal Court of Appeals--which affirmed that Microsoft was a monopoly that illegally acted to protect its dominant market--news that the government was taking a fresh look at Microsoft's products is a bad sign for the software giant. Microsoft has spent the past month backpedaling on several controversial tactics and products in an attempt to escape this level of attention from the government. Even some of the company's strongest supporters agree that XP might step over the line: The product bundles media playing, movie making, instant messaging, and Internet integration functionality, and provides a slew of digital media-related technologies that will make numerous third-party applications superfluous. Senator Charles Schumer, a strong Microsoft supporter, recently wrote a letter to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer explaining that the investigation into XP was required because it appeared to cause "grave harm to consumers" and competitors, such as AOL Time Warner, RealNetworks, and Kodak. Schumer asked Ballmer to open XP to competitors, letting them place their Internet services and instant messaging, audio and video, and digital photography software in the product to give consumers more choice. Schumer alluded to Microsoft's recent decision to make Internet Explorer (IE) an optional component in XP. "If PC makers and consumers can choose their browser in Windows XP," he wrote, "surely they should be able to choose their media player, messenger service, and other applications." Critics allege that Microsoft's decision to decouple the browser comes long after competition in that market has dried up, making it a hollow gesture at best. Schumer says he will recommend an order delaying the release of XP if Microsoft doesn't change the product to make it less anticompetitive. The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold three Microsoft-related hearings in September, although XP will be at the center of only one of them; the other two will focus on Internet competition and server software. The Internet competition hearing will debate Microsoft's .NET strategy, in which Microsoft has designed its HailStorm and Passport services and online sites such as MSN Calendar and Hotmail to steer consumers toward a Microsoft-oriented Internet. The server hearings will no doubt closely mirror two European investigations of the company, in which Microsoft has been accused of attempting to leverage its desktop monopoly to expand into the server market. Microsoft has not yet commented on these fast-moving developments. * Ioannis Vranos * Programming pages: http://www.noicys.f2s.com * Alternative URL: http://run.to/noicys |

It's the compiler, not your code or your system... when I run Dev-C++ 4.01 I get that same error every once in a while. You might want to try using 4.0 and not the update... I know Julio. Please accept my apologies. I deleted the previous
message so I don't know who asked for help.
I forgot to mention that the reply was for that person and not for you.

That is not my code, I just fixed the problem they had
with getPattern2() function. I agree with you though,
I would not have passed lines or stars by reference,
and I would have used for loops not while loops...
FROM: yahoo.comDATE: 07/23/2001 04:00:30SUBJECT: RE:
[Dev-C++] RE: Can anyone figure this one out?(I
did...) Just a comment.
If "lines" is assigned to 9 and 1 in getPattern1 and
getPattern2,
respectively, why do you pass it as a pointer in the
function? This
doesn't make any sense. You pass a paramter when
you're going to use
it.
The same counts for "stars". You only assign the value
of "lines" to
it.
My advice is to remove those parameters from the
function call since
you don't need them and define "starts" and "lines"
within the
functions getPattern1 and getPattern2.

Just a comment.
If "lines" is assigned to 9 and 1 in getPattern1 and getPattern2,
respectively, why do you pass it as a pointer in the function? This
doesn't make any sense. You pass a paramter when you're going to use
it.
The same counts for "stars". You only assign the value of "lines" to
it.
My advice is to remove those parameters from the function call since
you don't need them and define "starts" and "lines" within the
functions getPattern1 and getPattern2.

Sorry for my previous answer ... it was not complete.
Your getPattern2 function should have:
the first while loop that goes from 1 to 10 and the second that goes
from the value of lines to 0 (like the second loop of getPattern1)
try this code:
#include <iostream>
//*****function prototypes
void getPattern1();
void getPattern2();
int main()
{
int pattern; // will be read from cin, no need to initialize
cout << "Enter 1 for pattern1 or 2 for pattern2: " << endl;
cin >> pattern;
if (pattern == 1)
getPattern1();
else
getPattern2();
return 0;
}
//*****functions*****
void getPattern1()
{
int lines = 9;
while (lines > 0)
{
int stars = lines;
while (stars > 0)
{
cout << '*';
stars--;
}
cout << '\n';
lines--;
}
}
void getPattern2()
{
int lines = 1;
while (lines < 10)
{
int stars = lines;
while (stars > 0)
{
cout << '*';
stars--;
}
cout << '\n';
lines++;
}
}

Can I use a borland built lib with dev-c++. I have a lib file = "rlwin.lib" which has several functions written in c & asm which I use = frequently. How can I get gcc to use this lib file. Thanks for you help lonestar36 |

Hey folks, I wann a use a function --lets say "int doIt( void )"-- from a selfwritten, precompiled library --I called it "preObj.o"-- Should be the same like "printf(..)" from "stdio" (I am not shure if the std* libs are precompiled, but it would make sense, won't it) Ok. 1) I wrote my lib, saved it as "preOb.c" 2) compiled it via "gcc -c preObj.c" 3) and recived "preObj.o" The program which wanna use my "doIt()" out of my lib contains "#include "preObj.h" " with the header of my function. I told DevC++ to link my lib after compiling by checking 'Add following commands when calling compiler' under "Compiler Options" and adding "-lpreObj.o" into the field. To give the compiler a chance to find my lib I gave it the path under "Libraries Directory" wich is now "DEV-C++\Lib;D:\Gregor\Cpp\API\Petzold\scanner\" (My lib's path is "D:\Gregor\...\scanner\preObj.o" ) But instead of compiling and linking and giving me a running EXE-File I get this error message: <ERRmsg> Building resource file... Thanks.
I got it from the tutorial and I read the FAQ, but it doesn't work
I'm not able to see any kind of output.
Putting:
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
as it's said in the FAQ I just obtained to have a windows with the written:
"Press any key to exit.."
You know simple programs as "Hello world": I can't see the output.
Something happen: just a flash of something openin and closing.
Besides with TurboC I'm able to see the output of a programme just with Run
without Compile it.
