Not needed. You could do const int Utility::size=3D10; inside the .hpp
file but you do it in the shorter way anyway (which is equivallent).

At first i do not think you need a private static vector but anyway. If
you have another vector you can copy it directly:
vector<double> Utility::vec( othervector );
If you have another container e.g. a built in array you can do:
double darray[]=3D{1,2,3,4,5};
// ...
vector<double> Utility::vec(darray, darray+5*sizeof(*darray));
// sizeof(*darray)=3D=3Dsizeof(darray[0])=3D=3Dsizeof(double);
You can do the same for every other container like list etc.
If you do not want to copy, you have to assign every element explicitly
as you did.

Hi folks, I have the following problem: I´m trying to use the OpenGL-API with devC++. I linked -lglu32 -lopengl32 -lglut32 , included #include <gl/glut.h> but it doesn´t work. it "hangs" while compiling. It would compile forever if I didn´t cut the process. I also tried to do this: #define GLUT_NO_LIB_PRAGMA and #define GLUT_NO_WARNING_DISABLE to prevent "glut.h" from doing things related to MSVC. But with or without these gimmicks, it doesn´t work. With DevC++4, this worked. Is it a 4.9.6 bug ? Or else ? I´d appreciate your help. This isn't a funny MinGW syntax. Same thing if you work on Linux or FreeBSD or a number of other OS:es. No name collisions, since the loader always - a bit simplified but... - adds a "lib" prefix and a ".a" suffix. If you do write -llibcomctl32.a the linker will look for liblibcomctl32.a.a. Because you only specify the library name - not the actual file name - the linker may perform a lot of nifty extras, such as handling multiple versions of the libraries, shared-memory libraries, etc. If you want to know how it works, read http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Program-Library-HOWTO/ or else just accept that the world is complicated and some things has to be taken at face value. /Per W On Mon, 14 Oct 2002, Roberto Ricardi wrote: > Ok, may be rigth or not, some warning level at first time linker > instance, anyway. > But, the fact is that mean comctl32.a looks like libcomctl32.a and the > sintaxis must be -lNAME where NAME is comctl32 without the 'lib' header > or '.a' ext. Had been setup for the make built into minGW2.0, with MSYS behind it in the path. Thought that I had solved this, using MSYS to replace rm, etc; Installed the utils you linked to, and added the /bin folder before MSYS in my path... Was able to reset the TEMP and TMP variables... It hasn't broken anything... Thanks for the insight, re: make... the two sh binaries bahave a good bit differently... -Vern > Might either run a bad make program, or more probably if you are using > the gnu make, a bad sh. Ok, may be rigth or not, some warning level at first time linker instance, anyway. But, the fact is that mean comctl32.a looks like libcomctl32.a and the sintaxis must be -lNAME where NAME is comctl32 without the 'lib' header or '.a' ext. ( I read about in the dev-cpp help) funny!. Do you know some win32 source examples (not very complex of course) across the net more than draf a button, combo or something else ?? Might either run a bad make program, or more probably if you are using the gnu make, a bad sh. Try to locate a current sh port from http://unxutils.sourceforge.net/ since some sh ports don't handle long command lines very well. /Per W On Mon, 14 Oct 2002, Vern-N wrote: > This was on WinME. This was on WinME. But have found a workaround for now... I changed my system temp/tmp variables to C:\t from c:\windows\temp I shortened all paths to c:\progra~1\... instead of the the long <default> c:\Program Files\ form. Now the compilation works, but I will be adding further libraries, so I expect it will soon break again. This looks very much like a buffer-overrun problem somewhere in the IPC between dev-c++ and the executables... I guess this is the same as the genereic "Not Found" problem i saw posted earlier... -Vern From: Vern-N <vern@cs...>.unt.edu> dllwrap problem w/ mingw gcc 3.1 2002-10-09 18:03 trying to compile the default DLL application using the MinGW 3.1 compiler, libs, and includes... also have msys bin folder in my path after mingw. this is the 2.0 snapshot of MinGW. The generated makefile works fine from a cygwin window, but trying to compile w/ dev-c++ gives the following log: Executing make... make.exe -f "C:\newdll\Makefile.win" all g++.exe -c dllmain.cpp -o dllmain.o -I"C:/Program Files/MinGW/include" -I"C:/Program Files/MinGW/include" - I"C:/Program Files/MinGW/include/g++-v3" - DBUILDING_DLL=3D1 -s dllwrap.exe --output-def libnewdll.def --driver- name c++ -- implib libnewdll.a dllmain.o -L"C:/Program Files/MinGW/lib" - -no-export-all-symbols --add-stdcall-alias -o newdll.dll c++: =86: No such file or directory c:\Program Files\MinGW\bin\dllwrap.exe: no export definition file provided. Would really like the convenience of not having to compile from the cygwin shell. I've searched the lists for this problem for some time, and have not come up w/ any similar problems... Greetings,
I have been working on a set of utility functions that I gruped together on an
entirely static class. The
private part of this class has a (static) STL vector container whose components
I have had trouble to
intialize. My class partial listing can be given as below,
// file utility.hpp
class Utility
{
// public interface ...
private:
static const int size = 10;
static vector<double> vec;
}
// file utility.cpp
#include "Utility.hpp"
const int Utility::size;
vector<double> Utility::vec( size );
the private member 'size' can be directly initialized in the class body because
it is a static
integral value. However, I was unable to intialize the vec components (vec[0],
vec[1], etc.) directly
below the vector<double> vec declaration in the utility.cpp file, just as I
would have for the other
static private members of the class. The only way I have found to initiliaze
the vec components was
to use a new function, say 'void init_vec()', and then initialize the
components inside this new function.
I would like to know whether this is indeed the case or if I am missing
something. The init_vec()
approach seems to be something like a "makeshift" constructor, and I would
prefer to be able to
initialize the container components just as I would have to a usual static
member.
I will appreciate any advice you guys can give me.
Regards, Anderson.

No problem with XP here. I'm using Windows XP with wxWindows 2.3.2 and 2.3.3. Currently I use Dev-C++ 4.9.6.3 with an older MinGW (gcc 2.95.3-6), but as soon as I get the time, I will rebuild with MinGW 2.0.0-3 to get gcc 3.2. I didn't use a Dev-C++ package for wxWindow. I just grabbed the wxWindows source from sourceforge and built it. It works like a charm. /Per W On Mon, 14 Oct 2002 XI...@pr... wrote: > Well..basically...I am figuring that some environment variable in > Windows XP is not set that needs to be...but that since this has > all been tested with Windows 95/98, installing a copy might help > me get back on schedule (I am working to a deadline, and can't > seem to get DevC++ to compile the first example in the WxWindows > small tutorial, due to an 'unsupported toolkit error with font.h' > and for 'case-insensitive string compare' not being defined for > my OS/compiler. > > I am thinking that both of these issues stem from my use of > Windows XP rather than from a fault in the WxWindows library or > the mingw compiler. > > --- Original Message --- > From: "The Tone'ster" <to...@ds...> > To: dev-cpp-users-list <dev...@li...> > Subject: Re: [Dev-C++] Question using XP with Dev-C++ and WxWindows > > >huh ? > > > >Tony > > > >>=20 > >> David Scott Williams escribi=F3: > >>=20 > >> > Do I simply need to take my old hardware, attach a > hard-drive, and > >> > re-install windows 95 onto it to get this to work? > >> > > >> > David Scott Williams wrote: > >> > > >> > > I am getting some compile errors when compiling the first > >> > > "TextEditorApp" example from the mini-tutorial. > >> > > > >> > > Basically, it is telling me that I need to define string > not case > >> > > specific for my compiler/OS, and that I also am including an > >> > > unsupported toolkit (fonts.h). > >> > > Has anyone had experience with this? Everytime I try to update the English Language files and the Tip of the Day file with vUpdate, I get a dialog popping up saying that vUpdate has experienced an error and must close (and would I like to send an error report to MS). "Linker options/Optional Libs or Object Files" = Just see the label over the edit fields of the project otpions You put it in your path this way: Windows NT, 2000, XP: In explorer go to control panel, double click in system. Go to advanced tab, press environment variables button, select path and press edit, add the Dev-C++ bin directory, a semicolon is the separator between folders. After do that you have to reboot. Windows 9x: Open command prompt and type PATH=%PATH%;devbinaryfolder or PATH =devbinaryfolder;%PATH% You asked: do I have to link the implementation to userCode.cpp in order to create the .o file? For have myClass.o you don't need at all userCode.cpp. And for having userCode.o, it shouldn't, since you make the exe just by linking and you pass the myClass.o file in linker just for link it when creating the exe, and the userCode.o file would have undefined references which will have to be solved during linking. |

Not, you shall define some variable, I don't remember well what, I think = it was __GNUWIN__ (two underscores each, total 4), just open the header file which generates this warning and see what is defined before it. The probl= em seems to be that for compile with mingw wxwindows expects that flag (__GNUWIN__) to be defined, but mingw defines some other, like __GNUC__ o= r __MINGW__ or whatecer (I don't know what is the flag defined by mingw), s= o when it has to make the code written for GCC/mingw it pass over it becaus= e the flag is not what it expects. Granted, it is possible to compile and link in one step, but to the best of my understanding, Dev-C++ compiles (makes .o files) and links (make .exe or .dll files) in separate steps. Regardless, you should have a file entitled "myClass.o" in the same directory as "myClass.cpp" after you compile. If you are using the "File Open" dialog to check for myClass.o's existence, make sure you have it set to "All Files (*.*)" so it will show up. > In other words, do I have to link the implementation to userCode.cpp > in order to create the .o file?
